The movie curiously opens with a black-and-white sequence in which Jimmy Durante is performing "Ink A Dinka Doo". The reason for this is unexplained until 35 minutes into the film, in which Little Danny performs the routine for his Uncle Joe. Michael J. Fox as the older Daniel also performs the song making its occurrence sung and danced to in the movie total to three times.

The family name "McTeague" is also the name of the novel "McTeague" (1899) by Frank Norris that Greedy (1994) is allegedly also based on. The films Life's Whirlpool (1916) and Erich von Stroheim's Greed (1924).
