This was the second film in a lucrative three movie deal that Michael J. Fox had signed with Universal Pictures during the nineties. The first was For Love or Money (1993) in 1993, and the third was The Frighteners (1996) in 1996.
After Danny (Michael J. Fox) and Robin (Nancy Travis) discover Uncle Joe's (Kirk Douglas) complex charade at the film's climax, they see Molly (Olivia D'Abo) and Douglas (Jonathan Lynn) standing across the street, under the movie marquis, aptly playing the film Charade.
The movie curiously opens with a black-and-white sequence in which Jimmy Durante is performing "Ink A Dinka Doo". The reason for this is unexplained until 35 minutes into the film, in which Little Danny performs the routine for his Uncle Joe. Michael J. Fox as the older Daniel also performs the song making its occurrence sung and danced to in the movie total to three times.
