Storyline

Charles comes directly from France to take care of his father funeral arrangements. The man held a journal that was supposedly the key to a hidden treasure. That is the reason why Whip and Laura offer to help Charles in his trip through Northern Quebec in these rough times of the late nineteenth century. They will be chased by thieves and captured by rebel Inuits among other things. Written by Steve Richer <sricher@sympatico.ca>

Pretty scenery, pretty boring movie......
30 March 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Randy Quaid struggles to keep this beautifully photographed, but ultimately pointless, adventure movie interesting. The premise is a good one, a lost lake of gold, and an old coot with a diary and a map searching for it. Various shady characters are all interested in just one thing, finding the gold. Unfortunately "Legends of the North" has a choppy and badly undeveloped script which sinks the entire movie. Supposedly based on a story by Jack London, you would expect better. Characters drop in and out with little development. Certain parts of the script seem based on nothing more than lame coincidences. A love story appears out of nowhere, and then vanishes in another contrived dead end. 95 minutes of nice landscape, with characters wandering about in the snow, does not make a movie. A disappointment. - MERK
