PBS Digital Studios, in partnership with Pemberley Digital, just released its first-ever series based on a story that’s nearly 200 years old. Frankenstein, MD, a modern, online video adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel came alive on August 19, 2014. Created by the same team who gave us The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved (which includes Hank Green of Vlogbrothers fame and Bernie Su), the transmedia web series introduces viewers to Victoria Frankenstein, a highly-driven woman dedicated to proving herself in the male-dominated fields of math and science. And much like in Frankenstein MD’s spiritual predecessors, fans will be able to follow Victoria’s experiments in the lab not just through video, but on her blog, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram. New episodes will be released every Tuesday and Friday at 9 a.m. Pt on PBS’ YouTube channel, while extras can be found over on Pemberley Digital’s channel. »

Game Of Thrones Actress Sophie Turner Joins Mary Shelley's Monster

14 August 2014 1:45 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner has been cast as Frankenstein author Mary Shelly in a film project called Mary Shelley's Monster. The story "tracks the young writer as she writes her seminal novel and is drawn into a Faustian bargain with her own 'monster' of an alter ego, who offers literary fame at a desperate personal cost." Shelley first published her classic novel Frankenstein anonymously at the age of 21.

The film's producer Rose Ganguzza envisions Shelley's life as "the story of the most extraordinary 19th century teenage heroine told in a visceral, sexy, contemporary way. Our film is not a period drama. It is a story of youth that transcends time, a gothic romance, a love triangle that involves a dark passenger and we are tremendously excited to have such an exciting cast onboard this wonderful project."

‘Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner is Uncovering ‘Mary Shelley’s Monster’

13 August 2014 7:44 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

For anyone who tries to pull that whole “fake geek girl” load of crap, please point them in the direction of Mary Shelley. It’s really hard to argue that girls don’t have a place in horror or alternative culture when the person who created Frankenstein and his monster was a teenage girl. Now the story of the prolific author in her adolescence, the time when she wrote her masterpiece, will be chronicled in Mary Shelley’s Monster, with Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner stepping into her shoes. The twist here is that the titular monster is not the one created by a mad scientist in a lab out of thrifted body parts; it’s a personal demon that she struggles with, sacrificing pieces of herself to get literary fame and that perfect final draft. Shelley was a badass to be reckoned with, anonymously publishing “Frankenstein” at the age of 21 when she married poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (to »
