Storyline

Buddies Pepper Lewis (Woody Harrelson) and Sonny Gilstrap (Kiefer Sutherland) who are championship rodeo partners travel to New York to find their missing friend, Nacho Salazar Joaquín Martínez after he disappears in New York City to pick up his daughter, Theresa (Cara Buono). When Pepper and Sonny find that neither is anywhere to be found, they go about the wacky adventure of finding Nacho and Theresa, and in the process, test the foundation of their friendship. Along the way, they find themselves entwined in the inner workings of a New York sweat shop where Theresa has been enslaved after traveling to the U.S.A. from Cuba. Going about doing things in a cowboy way, Pepper and Sonny put their small town skills to the test in a big city kind of way and rescue Theresa from the thugs. Pepper has been shot in the buttock. This would be extremely painful for a while; yet at the end of the film, he hops into the truck and even bounces on the seat after telling Sam that his wound is a "tender subject." See more »

Quotes

Waiter at Waldorf Astoria: How would you gentlemen like your steak prepared?
Pepper: Prepared? Oh you mean cooked?
Waiter at Waldorf Astoria: Yes, of course, that's what I should have said, cooked.

great film
28 February 2002 | by (london, england) – See all my reviews

A truly great pairing of actors and a pooling of their talents. This is one of the greatest movies of all time, and not only because it was actually filmed in New Mexico. Harrelson and Sutherland play true to life roles as New Mexico cowboys and their trip to the big apple to save a friend and his daughter. This is the most accurate movie I have ever seen with regards to the speech and mannerisms of the New Mexico cowboy. A completely enjoyable film to watch.
