Willem Dafoe Talks Justice League And Movie Budgets

4 July 2016 4:33 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Actor Willem Dafoe is a two-time Academy Award nominee, with a remarkable resume. He is known for striking a very clear balance between big budget projects and independent movies – with roles in a diverse range of films, including Platoon, The Last Temptation Of Christ, Clear And Present Danger, The English Patient, Speed 2: Cruise Control, and Antichrist. Currently, however, it is his role as the Atlantean Nuidis Vulko in Justice League that is attracting the most attention.

All eyes were upon him recently as he attended the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival to receive the Crystal Globe Award for contributions to world cinema. The event called for a press conference, and The Playlist was on hand for the actor’s comments on many aspects of his career – including Justice League, which is currently in production.

Deadline is reporting that Thora Birch (Colony) and Johnny Knoxville (Jackass) have joined the cast of Above Suspicion, the new film from director Phillip Noyce (The Giver), who directed Birch in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.

The project, which is based on Joe Sharkey’s non-fiction book of the same name and is scripted by Chris Gerolmo (Mississippi Burning), tells the true story “of a newly married FBI poster-boy assigned to an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky. There he is drawn into an illicit affair with an impoverished local woman who becomes his star informant. She sees in him her means of escape; instead, it’s a ticket to disaster for both of them. This scandal shook the foundations of the nation’s top law enforcement agency, ending in the first ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder.”

John Krasinski will play the role of Jack Ryan in Amazon Prime’s new TV series...

John Krasinski has nabbed the role of Jack Ryan, which has previously been inhabited by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine. Krasinski is attached to portray Tom Clancy’s iconic action hero as the title character of a new Amazon Prime TV series.

Mr Krasinski is perhaps best known as Jim from the American version of The Office. He’s also appeared in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi, Away We Go, Leatherheads, It’s Complicated and BoJack Horseman (where he was the voice of Secretariat, if you were wondering).

Amazon is said to have fought off many other buyers to procure the new Jack Ryan series, which boasts Lost alumni Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland among its writing staff. Skydance Media, Paramount TV, and Michael Bay’s »

From Clooney to Spielberg, 5 Big Questions About Summer Box Office

1 May 2016 10:44 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, but the movie business operates on its own calendar. The foreign release of “Captain America: Civil War” this weekend and its domestic debut in five days kicks off Hollywood’s busiest season and signals that it’s popcorn movie time again.

The next four months will bring sequels aplenty, costumed vigilantes, and the destruction of several major cities. If movie studios have gamed out their major releases correctly, then they stand to profit handsomely from new Avengers, X-Men, Ghostbusters, and Star Trek installments. If not, they could be left holding a “R.I.P.D.”

Here are five burning questions that audiences will help answer at the multiplexes this summer.

1.) Does star power still matter?

George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling are just a few of the A-listers who are betting that their names above the title still mean something. »

John Krasinski Is The New TV Jack Ryan

29 April 2016 12:44 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

"The Office" and "13 Hours" star John Krasinski is set to play Jack Ryan, the popular CIA analyst and hero of Tom Clancy's novels, for a new TV series in the works at Amazon.

The streaming giant handed out a series commitment with the intention to go straight-to-series, but a green light hasn't been given just yet. The casting of Krasinski however will likely push it forward. "Lost" co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland are behind the project, along with Platinum Dunes and Skydance Media.

Five films have been made with the character including John McTiernan's cinematic classic "The Hunt for Red October," Phil Noyce's very well-regarded "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger," Phil Alden Robinson's respected "The Sum of All Fears" and Kenneth Branagh's disappointing "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit". Four actors have taken on the role including Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine. »

Rick goes off the fantasy deep-end in this week's left-field Aladdin-themed episode of Castle...

This review contains spoilers.

8.17 Death Wish

If last week’s episode, Heartbreaker, was an excellent example of one of my favorite types of Castle episodes, then this week’s Death Wish, is one of my least favorite. And that’s because it invalidates an important part of who Rick Castle is.

Sometimes, it’s hard to tell where Nathan Fillion ends and Rick Castle begins. And that’s been entirely intentional. The role of Castle was designed, let’s face it, to take the larger-than-geek-life charisma of Fillion and deliver it to a more mainstream audience without diminishing what we geeks love about Nathan.

Whether you’ve seen him on a stage at a panel, giving an interview, or had an autograph or photograph session with Fillion, you’re likely to report the »

Christian Bale Reteams With 'Out Of The Furnace' Director Scott Cooper For 'Hostiles'

About a month ago, Christian Bale exited Michael Mann's brewing "Enzo Ferrari," citing fears that the weight gain needed for the role would endanger the health of the actor, who has definitely wildly bulked and slimmed down for roles in the past. The movie was going to shoot this summer, and leaving left a open slot on his calendar. But he's found a way to fill it. Christian Bale will reteam with his "Out Of The Furnace" director Scott Cooper for "Hostiles." Based on a reimagining of a manuscript by the late screenwriter Donald Stewart ("Missing," "The Hunt For Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear And Present Danger") the western will follow an Army captain who is tasked with bringing a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to their tribal lands. Here's the synopsis:  Set in 1892, Hostiles tells the story of a legendary Army captain, who after stern resistance, »
