Jonathan Jackson's soap opera mother Genie Francis has a small role as Arnold's mother. Arnold's father is played by her real-life husband Jonathan Frakes.

In the early trailers, the make your own omelet scene included the invention of the popcorn omelet. It grew into a ball then exploded sending kids flying out the windows. This scene was cut from the final film and removed from future trailers.
