Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that principal photography on the epic action thriller Dunkirk is underway in Dunkirk, France. Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) is directing Dunkirk from his own original screenplay, utilizing a mixture of IMAX and 65mm film to bring the story to the screen. The production will shoot in France, Holland, the UK and Los Angeles, and today we have the first photos from the France set.
Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. Dunkirk features a prestigious cast, including Tom Hardy (The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception), Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall), Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn, Hamlet, Henry V) and Cillian Murphy (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy), as well as newcomer Fionn Whitehead. »
While he’s been in France for some time doing pre-production and test shoots, today Christopher Nolan officially commences production on his Interstellar follow-up, the World War II drama Dunkirk. Warner Bros. announced the start of production, including a synopsis which reads, “Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.”
The main cast has also been confirmed with Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, Harry Styles, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, and Tom Glynn-Carney. Variety has also chimed in that Damien Bonnard (star of Staying Vertical, which just premiered at Cannes) has joined the cast.

The Locarno Film Festival will fete U.S. producer David Linde with its Raimondo Rezzonico prize, given to a producer who epitomizes the indie ethos.
Linde’s long illustrious career dates back to his first major executive position at Miramax Films and Miramax Films International, where he oversaw the acquisition of several internationally renowned pics such as Peter Jackson’s “Heavenly Creatures,” Woody Allen’s “Bullets over Broadway,” and international distribution for Quentin Tarantino’s” Pulp Fiction,” among other titles.
After Miramax, Linde became partner of production company Good Machine, which Universal acquired to become the specialty film studio Focus Features which he ran with co-president James Schamus.
