A highly fictionalized real-life adventure of an Italian soldier who escapes a British prisoner-of-war camp to climb the challenging 17,000-foot Mt. Kenya and plant the Italian flag on the summit. Above average adventure film, with on location photography adding immensely to the experience. Rachel Ward is part of a love triangle, but does nothing more than look good, and then step aside as her two love interests compete to conquer the mountain. Ben Cross and Vincent Spano give good performances and the climb itself is well done. Tony LoBianco rounds out the name actors, cast as the Italian prison camp leader and chief motivator for the historic ascent. The careful balance between Spano's escape plan, and LoBianco's prisoner's victory over their captors initiative, does not play out until near the very end. - MERK
