Let's face it, we watch comedies to laugh. Plot, editing, and camerawork could fall by the wayside and people would still like it as long as it's funny. Even movies considered comedy classics aren't without their faults. Iconic movies like "Groundhog Day" and "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" prove that it's really, really hard to avoid a mistake -- even one as simple as a continuity error.

It's easy to forget that, two decades ago, Jim Carrey was just a talented TV sketch comedian who'd been trying for a decade to break into films. (Remember his roles in "Peggy Sue Got Married," "The Dead Pool," or "Earth Girls Are Easy"? Didn't think so.) But then came "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (released 20 years ago this week, on February 4, 1994), in which Carrey starred as a hyperactive sleuth tasked with finding the Miami Dolphins' kidnapped mascot, and suddenly, he was an A-list box office draw.
Critics didn't think much of the puerile Ace, whose favorite gag was talking through his butt cheeks. But audiences loved him, enough to make Carrey an overnight star after 10 years of trying, and enough to put the film on permanent rotation on basic cable for the next 20 years.
Still, as many times as you've seen "Ace Ventura," there's probably a lot you don't know about »

Universal Pictures’ repeat 1-2 finish with “Ride Along” and “Lone Survivor” at the weekend box office was impressive. Any time you tie a record involving “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” — which with “On Deadly Ground” did it for Warner Bros. 20 years ago — it’s kind of fun. But overall, it was a pretty blah weekend, with the top 12 movies combined taking in less than $100 million. The only new movie, “I, Frankenstein,” lurched into sixth and “Frozen” and “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” switched spots, but otherwise the top ten hardly changed. Part of that was the crummy weather chilling »

Continuing its reign at the top of the box office for a second week, Ride Along brought in another $21.1 million this weekend for a two-week haul of $75.4 million. Just as last week, Lone Survivor stayed put in number number two. The Mark Wahlberg vehicle earned $12.6 million this weekend, bringing it to $93.6 million in five weeks. Both films are Universal's, and they casually mentioned that the last time a studio occupied both the first and second box office spots was in 1994, when WB did it with On Deadly Ground and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. In third place, family favorite The Nut Job and its "Gangnam Style" closer delighted another $12.3 million worth of moviegoers for a two-week total of $40.2 million. Also in its second week out, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit brought its cumulative total to $30.1 million ($9.1 million of that came in this weekend). Rounding »

And then, as if the Movie Gods heard me, we were graced with our first official image from Dumb and Dumber To. I say official because there have been several pics from the production floating around, but those were just set pics that were sent out and tweeted by the stars of the movie. But now we have our first look at Harry and Lloyd in character, during a scene:
Dumb and Dumber To is going to pick up twenty years after the first film, and will center on an all-new adventure for our moronic heroes. In this one, Harry and Lloyd will set off on a new road trip, this time to find Harry’s illegitimate child… »
