The Stand Returns With American Nightmares

26 December 2008 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

This year, Marvel Comics held to its promise and delivered one hell of an adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand." Or, at least the beginning of one. Arc number one - "Captain Tripps" - is coming to an end and a second one is about to begin. Marvel has revealed the cover art for "American Nightmares," the five-part sophomore arc in "The Stand" series. The deadly super flu Captain Trips has devastated the country and now the few survivors must pick up the pieces and go on. Larry Underwood seeks escape from New York City. Lloyd contemplates an extremely unsavory dinner option in jail, and Stu Redman makes a desperate bid for freedom from his interrogators. Most ominous of all, the stange being called Randall Flagg continues his dread journey »

A synopsis of issue 3- as the superflu known as “Captain Trips” continues to spread across America, the lives of poor souls such as Larry Underwood and Frannie Goldsmith can’t help but be affected by it. And as the media begins to catch wind of rumors about chemical warfare and bubonic plague, the actions of the American government begin to devolve, local and global legal systems start to deteriorate, and two wild and crazy outlaws--Lloyd Henreid and Poke Freeman--decide to take advantage of the situation, wreaking a path of destruction through the American southwest! It's murder and mayhem, Stephen King-style, in the next chapter of the epic struggle between good and evil!

Fright Exclusive Interview - Writer/Director Mick Garris!

28 September 2008 10:14 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Just added! A Fright exclusive interview with Mick Garris! Mick Garris got his start much like we did here at Icons, by interviewing filmmakers for magazines & his Z channel show Fantasy Film Festival. (His guests included John Landis, John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, John Boorman) He went on to write for Steven Spielberg on Amazing Stories, then directed Critters 2: The Main Course, the prequel/sequel Psycho IV: The Beginning starring Anthony Perkins, and later went on to work with Stephen King more then any other filmmaker on such films as Sleepwalkers, The Stand, The Shining, Riding The Bullet & Desperation. (His next King adaptation will be Bag Of Bones!) He also created Showtime's hit series Masters Of Horror, as well as it's NBC follow-up Fear Itself! It helps that he's probably the nicest guy in the movie business, which is why he agreed to speak to us about all of the above! »

Interviews: Peter David and Mike Perkins

10 September 2008 1:38 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Last night, Peter David and Mike Perkins did a midnight signing at the prestigious Midtown Comics in Time Square. Despite the late hour, there were several fans in attendance and each had the opportunity to be among the very first to purchase the debut  issue of the new miniseries Dark Tower: Treachery and the premiere of the first miniseries based on Stephen King's other major work, The Stand: Captain Tripps.

The Dark Tower book series is Stephen King's very popular opus. The Dark Tower comics, plotted by King's aide Robin Furth (who also wrote The Dark Tower: A Complete Concordance) and scripted by Peter David (X-Factor, She-Hulk, Fallen Angel), have been serving as prequels to the series, showing the Gunslinger hero Roland when he was a young man and revealing other secrets of his home. Treachery is the third mini-series.

The Stand is perhaps Steven King's most famous book, »

First Look at Marvel's The Stand!

22 July 2008 9:51 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Personally I can’t wait to see how Marvel does with its upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal apocalypse novel The Stand. Just the excuse to read it again is enough for me.

AICN managed to get its hands on the first art for the book, and needless to say I’m impressed. They promise to have more tomorrow so make sure you hit ‘em up again to see the rest!

The first issues of The Stand should be hitting shelves this fall. Keep it here for more details as we get them!

Sci-Fi Channel Poll Selects Top 10 Movies, Books & TV Series

20 June 2008 4:39 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The last time I took a survey, I got screwed over.

A few years back I participated in a survey for my cable company and it asked what specialty channels I liked. Ie: Being a fervent Nascar fan, I admitted to The Speed Channel and a few others. A year later my favorite channels were on their own special programming tier that I had to pay extra for.

After talking to a lot of people back then about that survey and what they told me, it seems all the survey did was tell the cable company what channels to charge extra for. Thanks Mr. Cable company. I’ll remember that one.

With that said: What do Blade Runner, Firefly and 1984 all have in common?

They topped their respective categories in a survey titled “Visions for Tomorrow” that The Sci-Fi Channel conducted asking site visitors to report in on their favorite movies, »
