Although "Robin's Hoods" ran for only one season, it will always be remembered as Aaron Spelling's great contribution to first-run syndication. Dismissed by former "TV Guide" columnist Paul Droesch as a "cheesy crime drama", "Robin's Hoods" used one part "Charlie's Angels" and another part "Melrose Place" to form an entertaining whole. Following is an overview of the series, and although its episodes are not likely to see the light of day again, please do not read any further if you do not want certain plot points revealed. The premise involved the "noble" experiment of allowing ex-cons to serve out their parole by working and living above a bar owned by police officer Jake Robin. In the series' opener, Robin was murdered and the responsibility of running his newly opened bar, the Robin's Nest, as well as keeping an eye on his charges, was left to his widow, assistant D.A. Brett (Linda Purl). The "hoods" included Mackenzie "Mac" Magnuson (Claire Yarlett), Eddie Bartlett (David Gale), Stacey Wright (Julie McCullough), Anastasia "Annie" Beckett (Jennifer Campbell), and Maria Alvarez (Mayte Vilan). When they weren't working at the Robin's Nest, the "hoods" kept busy by helping Brett solve crimes, the first being who killed Jake Robin. Halfway through the first season, the first romance developed among the parolees, when Eddie and Annie became involved. Around the same time, Brett learned that she was expecting a child (Actress Linda Purl was pregnant in real life). Soon after, Mayte Vilan left the show as Maria was sent to Miami to care for her sick father. Filling her "slot" was ex-gangbanger K.T. Parker (Gretchen Palmer), who had served time for running down her abusive boyfriend. Linda Purl also took a powder, as Brett left with her in-laws to Chicago soon after giving birth to a son. In to oversee things while Brett was away was professional club manager Nick Collins (Rick Springfield). Coinciding with Nick's arrival was the break-up of Eddie and Annie, and the subsequent "hook-up" of Eddie with Stacey, who had been his best friend. Toward the end of the series' run, Nick and Mac also began a relationship. The show ended with a cliff-hanger of sorts when Annie, unable to deal with Eddie and Stacey's relationship, attempted to leave the Nest for good, and instead ended up in a coma after being involved in a motorcycle accident. Eddie, guilty over what happened, initially blamed Stacey, but soon realized that she was not at fault. However, Stacey overheard a conversation in which Eddie told K.T. that he hoped Annie knew how much he loved her. What Stacey didn't overhear was Eddie confessing that even though he would always love Annie, he was in love with Stacey. Soon after, Eddie returned to Robin's Nest to be with Stacey, only find her bedroom empty except for a note saying that she hoped she could find someone to love her the way that Eddie loved Annie.
