Now That Party of Five Is Getting a Reboot, It's Time to Watch the Original

  • BuzzSugar
Way before This Is Us was making us cry on a weekly basis, the Salinger family was paving the way for heartwarming family dramas to come on Fox's Party of Five. The addictive '90s series was all but forgotten until Freeform announced it was rebooting the classic and giving it a socially conscious update in the process. In the original series, the five Salinger kids lose their parents in a tragic drunk-driving accident, but in Freeform's version of the series, the five Buendias kids will be navigating life after their parents are deported to Mexico. It sounds like a timely family drama in the making, but before it arrives, you need to watch the original Party of Five. The classic series is like a '90s time capsule full of classic music, amazing outfits, and unabashedly sincere storytelling. For years, Party of Five wasn't available anywhere, and for TV family drama junkies,

Holly Marie Combs Slams Charmed Reboot: 'Don't Even Think of Capitalizing on Our Hard Work'

Holly Marie Combs Slams Charmed Reboot: 'Don't Even Think of Capitalizing on Our Hard Work'
Charmed, I’m pretty sure she’s not.

Original Charmed cast member Holly Marie Combs took to Twitter early Friday morning to denounce The CW’s in-the-works reboot, which snagged a formal pilot order on Thursday. And she pulled no punches.

“Here’s the thing,” she began. “Until you ask us to rewrite it like [exec producer] Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work.” Combs then harrumphed that the franchise “belongs to the four of us” — presumably referring to former co-stars Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty and Rose McGowan — as well as “our vast amount of writers,

‘Call Me by Your Name’: Timothée Chalamet is Learning How to Be a Man, Onscreen and Off
When “Call Me by Your Name” screened at the New York Film Festival last month, several threads from Timothée Chalamet’s 21-year-old life wove together. Above the sold-out, 1,100-seat audience at Alice Tully Hall, he watched the second half from the balcony, seated next to the actor who plays his lover, Armie Hammer, and their director, Luca Guadagnino. Onscreen, Chalamet’s character was 17, the same age he was when Guadagnino met him. At that time, Chalamet was a student at Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts — the Upper West Side inspiration for “Fame” — across the street.

In kindergarten, Chalamet was a lukewarm commercial actor. His “first moment of passion” for the craft came at age 12, seeing Heath Ledger’s Joker in “The Dark Knight.” “I just had no clue what

The Craft Is a Masterpiece, but the Stars Who Almost Got Cast Would've Been So Interesting

The Craft is easily one of the most underrated movies to come out of the '90s, and honestly, it just keeps getting better with age (I watched it the other day on Netflix, so I can vouch). Whispers of a reboot have been floating around for years, but in Entertainment Weekly's recent oral history of the film, a surprising piece of information about the original came to light. The casting director for the cult hit, Pam Dixon, explained that Neve Campbell was always at the top of the list for their dream cast due to her wildly popular run on Party of Five, but a handful of other rising stars almost played Bonnie instead. While Campbell brought the perfect amount of shy and awkward tics to the role, can you imagine if she'd had more of a Cher Horowitz vibe? "We tested Alicia Silverstone, Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie," Dixon said.
