Amazon’s ‘The Last Tycoon’ Screens in Monte Carlo After Public Pilot-Rating Process

18 June 2017 12:28 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Monte Carlo, Monaco – Roy Price, global head of content for Amazon Prime Video, loves author F. Scott Fitzgerald. That’s key to the tone of “The Last Tycoon,” the big-budget series that debuts on Amazon on July 28 after a successful pilot run last year.

Originally developed for HBO by writer-director Billy Ray and showrunner Christopher Keyser, the nine-episode show, based on the final unfinished novel by the author of “The Great Gatsby,” found a home at Amazon after HBO passed on the project. Since then, Price has been crucial to the extent to which the novel is reflected in the series.

“HBO was saying, ‘We are not even sure we want to call this “The Last Tycoon” anymore. We don’t know that we are getting an advantage by referencing a Fitzgerald novel that is that old,'” Keyser said at the Monte Carlo Television Festival, where “Tycoon” is launching in Europe.

Party Of Five: revisiting a 90s teen favourite

Carley Tauchert Aug 9, 2017

Now that Party Of Five is on Netflix UK in full, we revisit the 90s teen drama that followed in Thirtysomething's footsteps...

In each generation, there will be one. One of those shows that mixes drama, tragedy and humour. That can make you chuckle one minute and break your heart the next.

See related  Richard Marquand interview: Return Of The Jedi, Star Wars

Starting in the 80s with Thirtysomething, later in the 00s with Parenthood and now with the juggernaut that is This Is Us winning praise, it seems the genre is firmly here to stay, but there is another show that quietly made its way onto the screen in the 90s that not only built on the foundations laid by Thirtysomething, but has been a quiet and steadfast influence ever since.

When Party Of Five hit the airwaves in 1994, it was a bit of a filler show. »

‘All I Want For Christmas’ Gets Animated

22 March 2017 2:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It is said that if a Christmas goes by without every human (no matter what their religion) hearing and singing along to Mariah Carey‘s festive classic, All I Want For Christmas, then the world will end. Thankfully that’s never happened, and was made even less likely by the wonderfully uplifting cover featured in Love Actually. Now, just in case there are those younglings who haven’t quite taken up the tradition, the song is set to inspire its own CGI animated feature from Universal.

With Carey on board as an executive producer, and the plot focusing on a young girl who desires her own puppy, you can look for it this holiday season on DVD from Universal 1440 Entertainment. Being familiar with the lyrics, they may just need to change a few ‘baby’s to ‘puppy’s.

Production is now underway on Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You, »
