Before Claire Danes auditioned for the role of Angela Chase, a then-unknown Alicia Silverstone was the favorite for the role. Casting director Linda Lowy said that the "decision got tough" when the crew realized they would be choosing a 13-year-old over Silverstone, who was 16 and "emancipated," meaning she could work longer hours.
So many fans protested the cancellation of this show that there was serious talk about reviving production. The talk ended when Claire Danes announced she was not able to work on the series again due to her film schedule.
It is interesting to note that the name of the production company for the show is Bedford Falls, and when its logo plays at the end of the show, the voices of James Stewart & Donna Reed can be heard singing, "...and dance by the light of the moon" from the song "Buffalo Gal." Bedford Falls is the locale of the movie _It's A Wonderful Life (1947)_ and James Stewart and Donna Reed are its stars and sing the song in the movie. In the penultimate scene of the pilot, Angela's mom has her television on in her bedroom and James Stewart can be seen giving his daughter ZuZu her petals back, a climatic moment in the aforementioned movie.
