An amateur musician of stunted emotional growth is reluctant to take care of his young nephew, but as his reluctance grows, his other emotions begin to follow to the fore, meaning he may even become a better, more-rounded person.
Jack Rosenthal used the same character name, Bamber, for the head removal man in both this series (when he was played by Warren Clarke) and in the film The Chain (1984) (when he was played by 'Warren Mitchell'). In both cases, the character was a know-it-all who incessantly impressed (and bored!) his colleagues with his prodigious knowledge - hence the nickname "Bamber", a reference to Bamber Gascoigne, the question master on University Challenge (1962).
