St. Louis After losing their big house, Orry and Madelaine live with their little son in a town. It's not easy, but they try to help people from the South. But one day, Elkanah Bent and Orry's sister ; Ashton, come and Bent kills Orry. Furious Ashton kills Bent (or at least she thinks so). Madelaine is forced to get back to their house that has burnt in a fire, right after the War. When George Hazard learns about Orry's death, he is very sad, but decidec to go and help Madelaine. Meanwhile, Bent turns out to be alive. He goes to Pennsylvania and kills Constance Hazard (George's wife), and then goes to St. Louis and kidnaps Charles Main's little son. Initially broken-hearted George, gets furious after learning about the kidnapping. He goes at the prairie to find Charles. Together, they go after Bent. Meanwhile, Madelaine must fight against the Ku-Klux-Klan, as well as her brother-in-law, who don't want her building school for Black kids ... Written by Annie
In 1985 ABC TV debuted a tv mini series that garnered everyone's attention from all races creeds and colors. North and South made Patrick Swayze an overnight success as a leading male star. James Read was already a tv star wth NBC TV's Remington Steele. This mini series is the first in three mini series based on John Jakes's civil war novels. North and South ran one whole week as did the sequel North and South Book II, Love and War. Book III Heaven and Hell ran only 3 nights and was not that big a deal as the first two books in the series. It was as if though ABC TV wanted to wrap up all loose ends that went undone with the first two series. Time Warner Home Video has declined to transfer all 3 mini series to DVD format. It is always the same sorry excuse each and every time. There are currently no plans at this time to release this series on to DVD.
