In his autobiography, George Carlin states that Sam Simon often insulted the crew and treated them terribly. On his website, Carlin states that he should have checked Simon's mental health before working with him.

The Moylan was named after a real New York City bar that George Carlin frequented as a young man. Jack Donahue was named after the real-life owner of The Moylan. But the set was based on another bar, Cannon's, which Carlin's father frequented.
