TV Critics Pick the Best Animated Voice Actors of All Time — IndieWire Survey

TV Critics Pick the Best Animated Voice Actors of All Time — IndieWire Survey
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: Who is your favorite voice actor for animated characters on TV? Why?

Dave Trumbore (@DrClawMD), Collider

My knee-jerk reaction was either Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill for their roles as Batman/Bruce Wayne and The Joker, respectively, because “Batman: The Animated Series” is always on my mind. But thinking a moment more, my favorite voice actor (and arguably the best in the biz) is Frank Welker.

His name might not be a household one, but with over 800 credits and nearly 50 years in the industry, Welker’s voice definitely is.

Gargoyles: revisiting an underappreciated Disney series

David Baldwin Jan 30, 2017

Disney's Gargoyles was filled to the brim with creativity, mythology and great characterisation...

To get a sense of why Disney series Gargoyles stands as one of the more ambitious animated serials to have come out of the 90s, a good place to start is the episode Avalon Part 2. The second in a three part narrative taken from the show’s elongated second season, it begins with one iteration of the villainous Archmage, voiced with glorious ham by David Warner, asking a doppelganger whether he’s certain he knows what to do. To which the doppelganger replies “I should… I watched you do it.”

Said exchange doesn’t make much sense until the end of the episode, when the lines are repeated to an audience now fully informed, who have just seen two versions of the same character travel between

New Flash Character Is Not Human

  • LRM Online
A new character will debut in Flash episode 13 and will stick around at least until episode 14, that being the good intentioned leader of Gorilla City (The home of the sentient Apes in the comics, and apparently the CW show Flash), another ape, Solovar. If your left hand is evil, you hold Grodd, and if your right hand has good intentions then you cradle Solovar. This ape has been around the comics for a long time, and while he has had evil tendencies at times, Solovar is typically the logically thinking leader controlling Gorilla City.

Today, we learn that Solovar will join us, and I for one being an Apetivist am happy to learn that not all Gorillas will be evil in the show. Or so we are led to believe. For all we know, Solovar could be highly irritated that Barry threw Grodd into their world, disrupting their ape-lives and Solovar now seeks revenge.

*******Warning: Review Contains Spoilers*******

By Ernie Magnotta

If there’s one thing I love, it’s 1970s made-for-tv horror films. I remember sitting in front of the television as a kid and watching a plethora of films such as Gargoyles, Bad Ronald, Satan’s School for Girls, Horror at 37,000 Feet, Devil Dog: Hound of Hell, Scream Pretty Peggy, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Moon of the Wolf and The Initiation of Sarah just to name a few. Some of those are better than others, but all were fun.

When I think back, there have been some legendary names associated with small screen horrors. Genre masters John Carpenter (Halloween), Steven Spielberg (Jaws), Wes Craven (Nightmare on Elm Street), Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Joseph Stefano (Psycho) all took shots at television

Review: Young Justice

  • Comicmix
DC Comics has always had a special place in its heart for the teen sidekicks and since the 1960s, there have been numerous books dedicated to their collaborative efforts. Little wonder then, that Cartoon Network would want series based on Teen Titans and Young Justice. While the former reduced them to far younger incarnations, the latter took the Peter David-written comic and expanded its scope in vastly satisfying ways. Young Justice ran a mere two seasons but retains an ardent fan following so it’s nice to see the entire first season out now as a two-disc Blu-ray package.

The show was developed for the cable channel by former DC assistant editor Greg Weisman, who discovered his forte with animation as witnessed by the wild success of his Gargoyles. Here, he’s partnered with Brandon Vietti, no stranger to translating comics to cartoons. Their premise takes the teens – Robin,

Disney’s Marketing Force is with ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Oct. 13 Launch

Disney’s Marketing Force is with ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Oct. 13 Launch
The marketing force is strong with “Star Wars Rebels.”

Disney will promote the Oct. 13 launch of the new animated series on Disney Xd starting Sept. 29 with a one-hour film “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion,” available first for users of the Watch Disney Xd app.

The animated film will then premiere on Disney Channel on Oct. 3 and Disney Xd on Oct. 6 before the premiere of the “Star Wars Rebels” series on Oct. 13 on Disney Xd.

Disney is giving the show a major push across its channels around the world, making it available in 34 languages in 163 countries.

The move to offer up the “Rebels” movie first on digital devices — tablets, smartphones, computers and set-top boxes – is an interesting one, however — one that borrows from the trend by studios to release homevideo titles two weeks earlier before their discs hit traditional retail shelves through Digital HD.

Doing so will give Disney
