‘Grace and Frankie’ Review: A Strong and Surprising Season 4 Dares to Face Death — and Gives It the Finger

‘Grace and Frankie’ Review: A Strong and Surprising Season 4 Dares to Face Death — and Gives It the Finger
When does a funny story become sad? Typically in television, this kind of question is framed around arrested development: A grown man is still acting like he’s in college, and certain events force him to look himself in the mirror and say, “Getting that drunk and acting that dumb isn’t funny anymore. It’s sad.”

But what if it’s not arrested development? What if it’s unstoppable regression? Continuing its fearless quest to address the anxieties associated with aging, “Grace and Frankie” dares to ask if its characters’ wild misadventures aren’t actually funny anymore. Maybe they’re scary. Maybe these two best friends are losing control of their minds, bodies, and lives. Maybe they don’t even know it’s happening, as it’s happening. Maybe they need help.

Don’t knock Friends. It’s still relevant, and progressive too | Sarah Gosling

The show addressed modern masculinity and women’s empowerment. If that’s a problem today, Tory MP Kemi Badenoch is right to call young people puritanical

Not many things grow better with age: cheese, wine and George Clooney spring to mind. One thing particularly unable to cope with the ravages of time, though, is the situation comedy. The whole point of a sitcom is to take a moment in time and derive from that a whole heap of canned guffaws. A Guardian article once laid waste to a collection of classics: The Office was dismissed as “knowing, ironic idiocy”; The Likely Lads was called out for having an “unreconstructed racist, homophobic misogynist” as a lead character.

Sundance 2018 Deals: The Complete List of Festival Purchases So Far
The 10-day-long Sundance Film Festival — the first major fest on every cinephile’s calendar — begins this afternoon in the Utah mountains. Last year’s slate produced current Oscar hopefuls “Call Me by Your Name,” “Get Out,” “Mudbound,” and “The Big Sick,” the latter being two of the biggest buys witnessed at the festival, garnering a respective $12.5 million from Netflix and $12 million from Amazon Studios.

Distributors are descending on Park City, Salt Lake City, and Sundance in search of their successors, hoping not to repeat last year’s blunder by Fox Searchlight, which paid $9.5 million for “Patti Cake$,” a film that reaped only $800,000 domestically.

Here’s our constantly-updated compendium of every 2018 Sundance acquisition.

Here's Why Jennifer Aniston Pulled Carol Burnett's Ear

Here's Why Jennifer Aniston Pulled Carol Burnett's Ear
via Giphy To present the best actress TV awards for both comedy/musical and drama, Friends star and America's sweetheart Jennifer Aniston took the stage with TV legend Carol Burnett. Their "bit" was that Jennifer was living out a lifelong dream by sharing a stage with her idol, while Carol mistook Jennifer for Will & Grace star Debra Messing. While that second part is definitely a shtick for the sake of comedy, the first part probably is not. Jennifer's delight at being next to Carol seemed genuine, especially when she asked Burnett if she could pull the legendary comedian's ear and Carol, showing that she hasn't missed a step even at age 84, dryly replied, "If you must." Watch How Different Joey Tribbiani is in Season 1 of Friends

In season one of Friends Joey Tribbiani was a whole lot different than he was as the series progresed. For one thing he was a total hound dog, and wasn’t afraid to just go after any woman he was attracted to. He was also kind of an idiot, but thankfully throughout the duration of the show he developed along with the others. In truth he came in more as he was when he guest-starred on Married With Children as Vinnie, a monumental moron that had the morals of an alley cat and the libido of a teenager. That’s what made
