Based on the bestseller by Catherine Marshall, Christy tells the story of an idealistic nineteen year old who leaves the comforts of her city home to teach school in the impoverished Appalachian community of Cutter Gap, Tennessee in 1912. Strength, determination, and faith guide young Christy Huddleston through unforeseen difficulties, help her to gain understanding of the proud mountain people, and win her mentorship, friendship, and the love of two men. Christy was actually filmed in and around Townsend, TN, a small town near Gatlinburg that calls itself the "Peaceful Side of the Smokies." Many of the buildings still exist, though most are on private land and can only be viewed from the road. See more »
Christy was a wonderful, suitable entertainment that everyone could enjoy, and if you crave drama and romance...you would not be disappointed in Christy. The struggles Christy endures to love and understand her schoolchildren and make a life for herself in the backwoods mission and not as a sheltered city girl are amazing. Christy also has two men deeply in love with her, and she with them for different reasons. In one corner is the earnest young minister David, and the stubborn, brooding, but lovable Dr. MacNeill. I hope that a miniseries will air to conclude the story on-screen. But if that never comes to pass, choose an ending for yourself and be happy!
