Storyline

At and around the Shrewsbury abbey, Brother Cadfael is a monk with a difference. Given a choice, he would enjoy just being a simple gardener and herbalist for his home. However, too often events force him to use his other talent as a master sleuth in response to mysterious crimes happening in his community. While he investigates these crimes, he often finds himself at odds with the contemporary attitudes of the times with his own ahead of his time beliefs. Trivia

In the series, Jerome is portrayed as being much younger than Cadfael. Cadfael's age is around 70 and Jerome appears to be in his mid-thirties. In the book "The Devil's Novice" it is stated that Jerome was 20 years younger than Cadfael. It also stated that Cadfael was 60, meaning Jerome was 40. Also, Jerome comes off as naive concerning the ways of the world. In reality, he was quite knowledgeable about the world beyond the Abbey which was what actually set he and Cadfael against one another so often. See more »

I'd like to vote for it, but....

there's no ballot. I'd give the series a 9-of-10 mark. Jacobi is perfect as the solver of mysteries. I'd like to kick Brother Jerome in the shins, so that actor must have done an excellent job playing his part as well. Of the 3 sheriffs, I prefer the premier season's man. The others don't quite measure up. I have seen 10 of the videos released from the series so far...am still trying to locate those from the 3rd set.
