Mark and Katherine are having a baby. Katherine's wealthy parents, Herb and Elaine, don't believe she can take care of a baby. They don't have faith in Mark either, even though he is a doctor, because he only takes care of poor people.
After Ben is born, Laura helps out with taking care of him. Laura has had several miscarriages, and she and Scott are frustrated with attempts to have another baby.
Bernie, a psychiatrist who introduced Mark and Katherine and could have been Katherine's husband had things turned out differently, also helps out. But Katherine is feeling overwhelmed, and weird things are happening. Katherine did not leave Ben in the car. Katherine did not leave food burning on the stove. Katherine did not put Ben in the closet. Or did she do all these things? Mark says she must be suffering from post-partum depression. The one obvious clue that she was not imagining things--on WCWG, this film was called "Web of Deceit", and that title was shown during each commercial break.
Mark and Katherine try hiring a nanny, but the people they interview just won't do. This is one of the few funny moments in the film. However, Beth, one of Mark's patients, is pregnant and has no job. Katherine thinks she would be good at the job (although why would a responsible mother pay someone with no experience--someone who got pregnant when she was young and single--to practice on her child?).
This is a good mystery because there are quite a few possibilities, and we are not told a lot until the movie is about halfway through. Even then, the truth is revealed only very gradually. The plot turns out to be quite interesting and complicated.
Most of the actors do a good job, at least for a TV-movie.
I enjoyed this a lot.
