Hollywood’s real leading lady is telling all.

Sherry Lansing, the first woman to ever head a major movie studio, is the subject of Leading Lady: Sherry Lansing and the Making of a Hollywood Groundbreaker, a biography by Stephen Galloway that details her rise from struggling actress to Hollywood power player.

The Illinois native worked at MGM as a script reader and briefly worked at Columbia Pictures before becoming 20th Century Fox’s first female president in 1980. She then went on to become CEO of Paramount Pictures in 1992.

Prime for April - Screengrab Roulette

4 April 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

As we do, we've frozen random new to Amazon Prime titles and grabbed the first screengrab that popped up. Though they're leaning heavily on 1990s titles at the moment, their quality of offerings is far outpacing whatever B pictures Netflix has been licensing of late. Comment Party: Which will you be watching and which of the "new" streaming titles would you most want to read a write-up on this month? I'll obey your consensus command.

Okay on to the random screengrabs.

Every morning the ground is soaked with blood. The workers believe I brought this terror since it didn't begin until my arrival. Whatever I try they seem to know. All the deaths are on me.

The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)

Yes, yes, great Vilmos Zsigmond cinematography, a sound Oscar, and killer lions and but on a scale of 1-100 how kissable were Val Kilmer's lips in his prime? »

The erotic thrillers that followed Basic Instinct’s success

30 January 2017 9:46 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Simon Brew Feb 3, 2017

When Basic Instinct hit big, Hollywood went hunting for more erotic thrillers. Er, it found some. Includes Kevin Spacey with odd hair.

When a movie hits big out of the blue, it’s unwritten Hollywood law that the imitators aren’t too far behind. That’s why, after American Pie brought Porky’s-esque sex-tinged (late) teen comedies back to prominence in 1999, the box office was flooded with similar fare for years after. The Blair Witch Project, meanwhile, hit out of nowhere, and found footage horror is only now dying away. The late Wes Craven, meanwhile, wryly noted just how quickly Hollywood had cashed in on the success of 1996’s Scream, when spoof Scary Movie popped out the year after.

Going back to 1992, though, and it was the turn of the erotic thriller to enjoy its resurgence. »
