Watch: Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah co-star in a film about "competitive gospel choir"

28 September 2011 3:00 AM, PDT | Nerve | See recent Nerve news »

Let's just get this out of the way immediately: Joyful Noise does not look good. A trite set-up, hammy jokes, and a trailer that gives away not just the ending but pretty much every plot twist the movie has to offer, do not inspire confidence in me whatsoever. It looks like Sister Act without the snappy writing, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit without the snappy writing, or Sister Act 3: Stations of the Cross-dressing without the hilarious cases of mistaken identity. (Sorry, I couldn't think of a third movie involving church choirs there.) But the point is, I will see Joyful Noise, probably drunk, because it's a movie starring Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah. They obviously deserved much, much better than this movie, but hopefully the two can salvage something from the wreckage. I can't imagine they won't. You tell me: will this movie [...] »

Chuck Norris is the Worst-Reviewed Actor in Hollywood

12 June 2011 2:14 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

After analyzing countless reviews on RottenTomatoes, Slate magazine found out that Chuck Norris is the worst-reviewed actor, Jennifer Love Hewitt is the worst-reviewed actress and Dennis Dugan is the worst-reviewed director in Hollywood. The magazine only counted films (not documentaries) made since 1985 and considered people who have made/starred in at least ten movies. It wasn't easy for Chuck Norris to take the top spot, the man had to consistently deliver movies that critics hated. But thanks to "The Delta Force" (20% fresh rating), "Missing in Action" (23% fresh rating), and Top Dog (0% fresh rating), the actor ended up with an average score of 18.4% fresh rating. Eddie Griffin wasn't far off with 24.1%. Jennifer Love Hewitt's climb to the bottom was helped by such films as "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit" (7% fresh rating), "I know What You Did Last Summer" (35% fresh rating), "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer »

Are Jennifer Love Hewitt and Chuck Norris the worst actors of the last 25 years?

9 June 2011 8:45 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

There may be no excuse for appearing in Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties or Braddock: Missing in Action III, but is this right?

She may have earned a Golden Globe nomination for her TV work last year – and he may have invented a special pair of jeans for kicking people with – but history is already starting to turn against Jennifer Love Hewitt and Chuck Norris. According to Slate's comprehensive new study of Rottentomatoes aggregates, they are rated the worst actress and actor to have worked since 1985.

On the surface, it doesn't look like there's much to disagree with. Jennifer Love Hewitt, for example, has never starred in a film that has received a Rottentomatoes score of over 60%. Instead she's been content to ping backwards and forwards in pieces of dreck as diverse as Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. »

Who Did Slate Name as the Worst Actress Since 1985?

8 June 2011 1:18 PM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

The snarky statisticians over at online magazine Slate have named Jennifer Love Hewitt the worst actress since 1985. Action star Chuck Norris was named the worst actor. The editors chose from 2,700 directors and actors who have made ten or more films in the last 26 years. Why did they choose 1985 as the cut-off? The explanation is rather lengthy, but basically defines their era for modern films. Using Rotten Tomatoes' infamous "Tomatometer" rating system (where reviewers assign movies a numerical rating, with higher numbers being "fresh" and lower numbers being "rotten"), they calculated Love Hewitt as the worst actress. Her 18.9% overall rating comes from such "rotten" films as " Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit " (7% rating), " I Still Know What You Did Last Summer " (7% rating), and both " Garfield " movies (15% and 11%, respectively). The best actors? French actor Daniel Auteuil (86% overall rating) and Armenian-Canadian actress Arsinée Khanjian (84.7% overall rating). Haven't heard of them? Neither have we. »

Rotten Tomatoes data says Jennifer Love Hewitt is the "worst-reviewed" actress in over 25 years. The 32-year-old actress was found to have none of her movies ranked as 'Fresh' - meaning an average of 60 per cent or higher - on movie review aggregator RottenTomatoes.com and an average ranking of just 18.9. The low score came from flops such as 'Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit', with 7 per cent, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer', which with a 35 per cent ranking was still 28 per cent higher than its sequel, 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer' and both 'Garfield' films, which ranked 15 and 11 per cent respectively. In contrast, Slate.com, who comprised the footage after studying reviews from 1985 onwards - a period they deemed no longer tinged by nostalgia - found Arsinee Khanjian to be ranked the best actress. Jennifer Love Hewitt: Worst Actress In Hollywood?

8 June 2011 5:44 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

She stole hearts in "Can't Hardly Wait" and even showed the knack to talk with ghosts on CBS, but when it comes to awards an actress doesn't want to win, Jennifer Love Hewitt takes home the big golden (rotten) tomato.

According to Christopher Beam and Jeremy Singer-Vine at Slate.com, who used their access to movie review aggregator RottenTomatoes.com's gigantic database to chart out critical reception to director and actor performance, Love Hewitt is the worst-reviewed actress since 1985, the cutoff date they established as a modern era for reviews unaffected by nostalgia and the easier critics of the past.

Hewitt has the rare distinction of never having made a single "fresh" (above 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) film. Her average score of 18.9 owes to such duds as "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit" (7 percent), "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (35 percent), "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer »

7 great movie nuns Jennifer Hudson should research for 'Three Stooges' role

2 June 2011 12:27 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

The orphanage in Peter and Bobby Farrelly's upcoming "Three Stooges" movie is getting awfully crowded. Deadline reports Jennifer Hudson is set to play Sister Rosemary, joining Jane Lynch's Mother Superior and Larry David's Mother Mengele.

Now, don't get us wrong... Hudson is a great actress, and that Academy Award win for "Dreamgirls" was well-deserved. But her limited IMDb credits illustrate that she's still a little green. So before she starts filming "Stooges," we have 6 quick references of great movie nuns (and 1 from TV) that should help her get into character:

Julie Andrews, "The Sound of Music"

Speculation has it that Sister Rosemary is the sweet one to the orphaned stooges -- and what nun is better with children than Maria? She disarms petulance with song, something that will come easy to Hudson. The only drawback is that she's really only a nun for the first five minutes.

Beth Ditto loves watching TV shows about cleaning

The Gossip frontwoman wishes her favourite programme, 'How Clean Is Your House?' - in which presenters Kim Woodburn and Aggie McKenzie help people sort out their filthy surroundings - would launch in her native America because it would be such a challenge for the hosts.

She said: "My favourite TV show is 'How Clean Is Your House', the British one - there is no American one. "Though sometimes they come to America and than can be better - I feel there's no dirtier house than in the United States." Beth also revealed her favourite film is 'Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit' because she is such a huge Whoopi Goldberg fan.

She said: "I don't know what it is about it, but I just love Whoopi Goldberg. She's amazing - every role she does, she's »
