'Landline' Review: Indie 1990s Dramedy About Dysfunctional Family Falls Short

20 July 2017 6:05 AM, PDT | | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Talk about a hard act to follow: Landline brings together the same sublime actress (Jenny Slate) and filmmaker (Gillian Robespierre) who put a sting in the tail of every joke in Obvious Child, their 2014 romcom about abortion. Ok, their movie about a stand-up comedian negotiating the pitfalls of 21st-century romance dug deeper than that pithy description – and the duo's follow-up also offers far more than meets the eye. But there's something missing that’s hard to pin down.

Set long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away – that would »

Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson's Romance Is a Lesson in Love For Non-Believers

29 June 2017 3:00 AM, PDT | | See recent Popsugar news »

Natasha Richardson tragically passed away in 2009 from a head injury following a skiing accident, but her romance with husband Liam Neeson is one that continues to inspire people to this day. The two stars tied the knot in 1994 and welcomed two sons, Micheál and Daniel. While they were clearly an adorable couple, the beginning of their love story was actually pretty dramatic. Natasha and Liam first met in 1993 while starring in the Broadway revival of Anna Christie. At the time, Natasha was married to producer Robert Fox, and Liam was known as a Hollywood ladies' man who had been previously linked to stars like Helen Mirren, Julia Roberts, and Brooke Shields. 29 March 2017 12:56 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The Zookeeper's Wife is deeply emotional and visceral, but fails to reach the bar set by better examples of the genre. Adapted for the screen by acclaimed director Niki Caro (Whale Rider, North Country), the film has tour-de-force performances from Jessica Chastain and Belgian actor Johan Heldenbergh. It is the remarkable true story of a Polish couple's courage during World War II. Told from a female perspective, the drama showcases the immense horror and degradation that women suffer during conflict.

Set in the summer of 1939 Warsaw, Antonina (Chastain) and Jan (Heldenbergh) Zabinski run a delightful zoo at the center of the city. They have a young son, Ryszard (Timothy Radford, Val Moluku), who helps them care for the animals. The family has a peaceful, idyllic existence with their beloved creatures. Antonina has a natural aptitude with them, impressing everyone with her skill and glamorous beauty. These traits are not unnoticed by the zoo's primary benefactor, »
