Holiday Movie Junk: Save 50% on Blu-ray Discs

26 December 2008 10:02 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Well, it's the day after Christmas -- Santa has packed up his sh*t and ditched town for another whole year -- and we're left with some stuff we want, some stuff we don't want and some stuff we haven't yet figured out. Like me, most of you will probably head on back to the mall today or over the weekend to do some returning, and with that extra cash in your pocket you might be looking for something film-related to pick up. Well, those new and old Blu-ray costumers should seriously run on over to Amazon.com, who have put roughly 200 titles on sale for 50% off.

There's no time like the present to stock your Blu-ray library, and if you haven't picked them up already, here are a few titles we definitely recommend Wall-e ($24.49), Bottle Rocket Criterion Collection ($23.99), The Thing ($16.49), The Shining ($13.99), A Clockwork Orange ($13.99) and The Nightmare Before Christmas. »

Christmas Horror

25 December 2008 6:00 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

James from Out 1 here to wish you all a happy holiday season. I was sitting here tonight watching It's A Wonderful Life and thinking about all the Christmas movies that we all see year after year after on TV. There are a lot of Christmas movies out there, and some of the ones we don't hear about so much are Christmas related horror movies. I'm a big fan of Christmas horror, although most of it, admittedly, isn't very good. Still, I'm always up for shaking up Christmas spirit with some good ole Christmas fear. There may be slim pickins, but I wonder if anyone else out there has some oddball Christmas movies that they watch every year. Among my horror picks are the Silent Night, Deadly Night series (mainly the first two, see the picture above) and Santa's Slay starring former professional wrestler Bill Goldberg. I'm also big on The Nightmare Before Christmas »

Don Corleone, Dirty Harry, Tony Stark: Best Blu-Ray, DVD Releases of 2008

23 December 2008 1:43 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – For audiences increasingly accustomed to watching movies at home instead of at the multiplex, it was an interesting year for DVDs and Blu-rays.

In this list of top Blu-rays and DVDs of 2008, we cover “Tropic Thunder,” “Dirty Harry,” “The Last Emperor,” “Iron Man,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Dark City,” “Mad Men,” “Spaced,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Godfather” and others including “Band of Brothers,” “Firefly,” “Star Trek,” “Transformers,” “The Wire,” “The Sopranos,” “Dexter,” “24,” “Lost,” “Deadwood” and “Casablanca”.

Of course, the biggest event was the end of the format war between HD-DVD and Blu-ray, but the impact of that Blu-ray victory has yet to fully be realized considering the incredibly small market share still being occupied by the next-gen format. With Blu-Ray players dropping in price by the day and the increasing popularity of HD TVs, it seems like only a matter of time before Blu-Ray supplants DVD in the same way »

Beetlejuice star Glenn Shadix is devastated after fire destroyed his home in Alabama.

The actor is reported to have left his property on Monday morning and returned later that day to find the house engulfed in flames.

Shadix, who has starred in a variety of films including 1993's The Nightmare Before Christmas and 2001's Planet of The Apes, bought the house last year after moving back to his hometown of Bessemer, Alabama.

Early Coraline Review

17 December 2008 1:19 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Ain't it Cool has just posted a very early review of Henry Selick's Coraline, which won't hit theaters until February 9, 2009. Word is that, unlike a lot of adaptations from novels, this one has managed to push the envelope while staying true to the spirit of the Neil Gaiman original. One key factor in pulling this off, according to the review, is an incredible attention to detail:

"Look closely at the various sets in Coraline's house and the Other House and you'll see that they first appear to be the same. Look at them further though, and the 'real' sets are deliberately smaller and more cramped to heighten the illusion, while the 'other' sets are wider and more comfortable. The characters even move differently in one set versus the other. If you're a stop-motion geek like me, this stuff will blow your mind."

If the rest of the movie lives up to this description, »

Exclusive Coraline Alphabet Card Poster for the Letter C -- Plus an exclusive video interview with Scott Tom (lead character fabricator) and Travis Knight (lead animator)

16 December 2008 | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

As most of you already know, opening on February 6th, 2009 is director Henry Selick’s (“The Nightmare Before Christmas”) next movie “Coraline”. For those that don’t know, “Coraline” is based on the bestselling book by Neil Gaiman and it’s about a girl that walks through a secret door in her home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when the new world turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents try to keep her forever, Coraline must find a way to get home and save her real family. Trust me, it’s a very cool story and it’s a movie you should really be looking forward to. Anyhow, a few weeks ago I posted an exclusive video interview with director Henry Selick. The interview was done at a special event in »

With the holiday shopping season officially upon us, I figured it might be a good idea to start making some recommendations for the lucky horror-loving folks on your lists!
