Recently we took a look at what the cast of Boyz N The Hood was up to.  Today I figured we could take a look at the cast of the movie that almost always gets compared to its struggle-in-the-ghetto-themed counterpart, Menace II Society.  Released in 1993 and directed by the Hughes Brothers, Menace made Boyz look like a Disney movie.  I’m of the opinion that Boyz is a vastly superior movie, but that doesn’t mean that Menace II Society isn’t great and, like Boyz, Menace has its share of memorable cast members. Sundance Buzz: 'Chronicle' Meets 'Iron Man' Meets 'Menace II Society' in 'Sleight'

The best genre movie at this year's Sundance Film Festival is surprisingly not screening in the Midnight section alongside the fest's most talked-about horror and sci-fi titles. Instead it's part of the Next section, which over the past few years has emerged as Sundance's most exciting programming slate because it not only features films from emerging directors, but these films are also the ones that tend to take the biggest creative risks -- both in form and in storytelling.  The movie I'm talking about is called Sleight, and it comes from Bad Robot veteran and first-time director J.D. Dillard. If you tossed Chronicle, Iron Man and, yes, Menace II Society into a blender, you might wind up with something like Sleight -- about an young aspiring magician...

‘Bad Influence’ Movie in the Works at Broad Green With ‘Perfect Guy’ Writer

Broad Green Pictures is developing the drama “Bad Influence,” based on a pitch from “The Perfect Guy” writer Tyger Williams (pictured).

The story is centered on a single mother who has to deal with her son’s obsessive ex-girlfriend. Producers are Offspring partners Jennifer Gibgot and Adam Shankman.Hide

Williams is on board to write. Gibgot developed the project with Williams, whose credits include the Hughes Brothers “Menace II Society” in 1994.

Alix Madigan will oversee the project for Broad Green, headed by brothers Gabriel and Daniel Hammond. The company built up its slate through acquisitions and has been moving into developing its own films in recent months.

The Perfect Guy,” starring Sanaa Lathan and Michael Early, was a major success for Screen Gems with a worldwide gross of $60 million on a $12 million budget.
