Storyline

When Dan O'Grady returns to the U.S. after stealing some Irish leprechaun's pot of gold, he thinks he can settle down and enjoy his newfound wealth. He thought wrong. The leprechaun followed him and O'Grady barely gets away with his life, having locked the little monster in his basement. Ten years later, J.D. and his spoiled daughter Tory move in. By accident, the leprechaun is released and almost immediately the annoying creature starts to look for his gold, not displaying any respect for human life. Written by Peter Zweers <peterz@pi.net>

Trivia

One scene required the Leprechaun to find and eat Lucky Charms cereal, which the company gave them permission to do. Upon seeing the finished film, the company was displeased and would not allow them to use the scene. The film makers had the choice to either cut the scene or to re-shoot it, costing them more money. They chose to re-shoot it, replacing the brand name with an obvious spoof of the name brand cereal, and, made one last additional surprise ending scene while they were filming. Furious with the cereal company for making them re-shoot the scene, they pulled the kid character aside and had him say a new line. His line, "Your luck just ran out!" was changed to "F*ck you, Lucky Charms!" as an obvious reference to the whole ordeal. See more »

first is best
24 May 2003 | by See all my reviews

I found the original Leprechaun the best and its not even that great which should tell you about the multiple sequels. I see Leprechaun 6 is coming out which doesn't amaze me one bit, 10 years 6 sequels and one bad series of films. I would watch this one the original, but I wouldn't waste time watching those sequels unless you really want too. Robert Gorman a very underrated child actor does a great job along with Mark Holton another actor who has flown under the radar. Leprechaun has a lot of stupid, crude, and silly things, but I think you would like this original.
