Storyline

Awaiting execution, Denver Bayliss gains an unlikely friend and confidant in Fred Whitmore, a former cop who is now a prison guard. Whitmore's life is a mess, however: he shuts out his wife and can't relate to his son. As Bayliss' execution draws nearer, Whitmore clashes more and more with Lt. McMannis, his supervisor, over Bayliss' treatment. Bayliss gives Whitmore a new understanding of life by helping him come to terms with a traumatic past, and Whitmore helps Bayliss to make his peace with himself and the world. Written by Jason A. This was a TV movie?? Wow...
20 October 2003 | by (Nebraska) – See all my reviews

I've never written a review on here before but after seeing 'Last Light' I felt compelled to do it.

If you want to see a well-crafted film about life on the Row - maybe you enjoyed 'Shawshank Redemption' or 'Dead Man Walking' - then give this one a try as well. Kiefer Sutherland and Forest Whitaker turn in fantastic performances. I love character study films and this one did not let me down. Kiefer was only 27-ish when he starred AND directed this hidden gem of a movie. I am amazed by that. And I've always loved Forest in anything he does and he doesn't disappoint me here. 'Last Light' is gripping, intense and the final sequence is shot beautifully - I cared a great deal about the characters by the end of the film.

I actually dug around on the Internet to find this one and I bought it and added it to my collection. Great work altogether from everyone involved. I give it top ratings.
