Lol: Revenge On Your Cheating Girlfriend, Netflix Style

10 December 2010 1:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Whether or not you think Netflix is burning itself out [1], there's no denying the service has become a staple of movie watching for almost everyone: male and female, young and old alike. And, if you've ever spent hours upon hours raking every movie you've seen while sitting at your desk at work (not that we speak from experience) then you'll agree the more information you give the site, the better it does recommending movies or shows you'll enjoy. So, hypothetically, if your girlfriend cheated on you, and you spent way too much time obsessing over it, you could get a subtle but sweet revenge through Netflix. One lucky gentleman did. Probably. Check out the full photo after the jump. Thanks to Reddit [2] for the photo and NerdApproved [3] for the heads up. This photo shows the "Movies You'll Love" page on the guy in question's girlfriends account. He spent an unspecified »

Boyfriend Uses Netflix to Exact Revenge on Cheating Girlfriend

The new age of technology has opened up new waves to deal with romantic ruptures. Whereas in 1952 Hank Williams wrote and recorded 'Your Cheatin' Heart,' 50 years later Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) angrily blogged about his girlfriend Erica (Rooney Mara) dumping him, as recreated in 'The Social Network.' And we know where that led. But that feels positively Old School compared to what one cuckolded boyfriend recently did to strike back at his sure-to-be ex: He fouled up her Netflix account.

The disgruntled boyfriend posted a screen shot from his girlfriend's Netflix account with the caption "My girlfriend cheated on me, so I rated movies in her netflix account until I reached the desired result." What's Next for Indie Filmmaker Jacob Cooney?

28 November 2010 12:37 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

A short while ago we ran a story on Jacob Cooney's short film "The Frolic", and as if to prove that the only way to get ahead in this business is to work your ass off, Cooney dropped us a line with some early details on the not just one or two new projects he working on, but rather the Six films the writer/director/producer is in various stages of development and involvement with.

The prolific young Cooney tells Dread, "Directorially, my next project is the indie thriller Grass Lake. Written by Brandon Trenz ("The Frolic") and produced by Jane Kelly Kosek and Jade DeCosta of Wonder Entertainment, this film is about four friends in their 30’s who go on a fishing trip. But when they find a package of marijuana and one hundred fifty thousand dollars cash, they discover that even lifelong friendships have their limits. Currently »

Thin Red Lines, Black Metal and More New DVDs

23 September 2010 3:17 PM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

A look at what's new on DVD today:

"The Thin Red Line" (1998)

Directed by Terrence Malick

Released by Criterion Collection

No, you won't be getting the hours of deleted Adrien Brody or George Clooney footage from Malick's World War II epic, but this Criterion version is most certainly an upgrade from the previous bare-bones DVD edition with 14 minutes of outtakes, new interviews with Sean Penn and composer Hans Zimmer, among others from the cast and crew, an audio commentary with cinematographer John Toll, production designer Jack Fisk and producer Grant Hill and more.

"7 Days" (2010)

Directed by Daniel Grou

Released by Mpi Home Video

French Canadian horror author Patrick Senécal adapts his own novel to celluloid about a doctor (Claude Legault) who intercepts the man (Remy Girard) who raped and murdered his young daughter and turns the tables on him in a cabin in the woods. With a résumé including TV series like "Vampire High, »

The Freebie Gets a Poster

27 August 2010 10:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Yesterday I posted a new trailer for The Freebie which has the basic premise that a married couple’s sex life is going down to the toilet so they decide to have one night where anything goes.

Personally, I think the whole idea for the movie is a pretty sad one and I’m sure that whatever happens, it’s all going to end in tears (haven’t they seen Indecent Proposal?!).

The Freebie stars Katie Aselton, Dax Shepard, Bellamy Young, Ross Partridge, Sean Nelson and is also directed by Katie Aselton. I’m not sure when it’s released in the UK as yet but i’ll keep you posted.

Thanks to Impa for posting this one. »

[TV] The Simpsons: The Thirteenth Season

22 August 2010 2:34 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

If the twelfth season of The Simpsons had one redeeming episode in every four, you’ll realize just how good we had it that season. At least then we had about six solid episodes in the season, with the thirteenth season, we should count ourselves lucky if even 3 are watchable. The rest is pure schlock masquerading as the show we once knew and loved. Rarely, if ever, is there a clever joke or piece of worthwhile social commentary mixed in to the weakly constructed episodes where in seasons past we had genius concepts confronting the hypocrisy of banning brothels, religion, and family values as a whole. The Simpsons earned a name as the ultimate lampoon of social tropes for a solid ten seasons, and then, almost overnight (in this case, in the span of three seasons) it lost it all.

Bette Midler: Misery is not me

6 August 2010 5:27 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

She passed up Oscar-winning roles and is now playing a talking cat. Should life have worked out differently for Bette Midler?

In theory, promoting a film like Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore should be the easiest thing in the world. You just have to pitch up, tell everyone that it's a fun family film, and then go home. You could, if you felt that starring in a film about some talking animals had somehow compromised your artistic credibility, simply admit that your children wanted you to be in it. That's what Chris O'Donnell said, and nobody thinks any less of him.

What you don't do, though, is follow Bette Midler's lead. Midler, who plays the eponymous Kitty Galore character, seems to be intent on promoting Cats And Dogs 2 by listing all the other disastrous career choices she's ever made in her life. In an interview with Metro this week, »

According to Crain's New York, Moore and literary agent Luke Janklow met with publishers willing to bid at least million. But she told them she was willing to write about her mother Virginia King, with whom she had a notoriously difficult relationship.

The 47-year-old actress married second husband Bruce Willis in 1987. Their relationship lasted for 13 years and produced 3 daughters. She is now married to 32-year-old Ashton Kutcher.

Redford Slams Politicians & Oil Chiefs Over Slick

7 June 2010 5:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Veteran actor Robert Redford has accused U.S. politicians of blindly supporting oil chiefs in the aftermath of the massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Indecent Proposal star, who worked on oilfields as a teenager, has filmed a five-minute video for the Natural Resources Defense Council (Nrdc) to highlight the crisis, which is threatening America's Gulf Coast.

The clip features photos and TV footage of the oil leak, which was triggered when a Bp rig collapsed in April and has since been branded one of the worst environmental disasters in America's history.

Redford is angry that so little appears to be being done by American officials as Bp chiefs are spearheading the clean-up process - and he is calling on U.S. politicians to monitor the situation closely.

In the clip, Redford says, "Stop listening to the self-interested propaganda of the oil companies and their parrots in Congress.

"Even at the age of 16, it bothered me because I could see what was happening up there (was) that the propaganda of oil companies, and the lobbyists they hire, were selling the idea that it was going to be great for the economy, great for everybody. And I saw it differently."

And Redford has also urged Americans to move away from their dependence on oil and pursue alternate energy sources, such as wind and solar power.

He adds, "I think it is time for the American people to take charge of their own livelihood and say, let's stop this and let's move to a clean energy policy." »

Review: Roger Corman Collection Vol.8 – Slumber Party Massacre

Slumber Party Massacre

Stars: Michelle Michaels , Robin Stille, Michael Villella, Brinke Stevens, Debra Deliso | Written by Rita Mae Brown | Directed by Amy Holden Jones

A mass murdering maniac escapes from prison and, armed with a power drill, begins to decimate the nubile high schoolers of a Los Angeles suburb during their slumber party. Thats it. Why mess with perfection and add a convuluted plot?

This is the 80’s remember, when the slasher movie was king and all you needed to make a film was a bunch of nubile girls willing to strip off on camera, some ok-ish special effects, and someone to play the killer… No need forany real motivation, no need for any back story, just as long as there’s gore-a-plenty!

Initially intended as a parody of the slasher genre, scripted by lesbian-feminist author and activist Rita Mae Brown (Rubyfruit Jungle) and directed by Amy Holden Jones (who »

This Weekend in B.O. History...

29 April 2010 2:14 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

The end of April is typically the calm before the summer storm, but Hollywood has become more and more aggressive with the timeframe as the years have progressed. This year, for instance, with Iron Man 2 set for May 7, high-profile A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) launches at 3,332 theaters on the April 30-May 1 weekend. Five Years Ago - 2005 This weekend was one of the industry's most significant bids to start the summer season early with the release of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and XXX: State of the Union, but it failed. Hitchhiker's Guide blasted off with a chart-topping $21.1 million at 3,133 sites, which was solid by sci-fi comedy standards but perceived as somewhat of a letdown for such a long-awaited book adaptation. The Vin Diesel-free XXX sequel opened in third with a disastrous $12.7 million at 3,480 sites after giving a generic Tom Clancy treatment to the extreme James Bond of the first movie. »

This Weekend in Box Office History: Comparisons for April 23-25, 2010

23 April 2010 12:50 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Traditionally, late April hasn't been the most exciting time at the box office, but Hollywood has been making more and more attempts to capitalize on the days leading up to the summer movie season. Five Years Ago - 2005 The Interpreter topped the box office with $22.8 million at 2,758 theaters. It was one of the biggest-grossing debuts for a political thriller at the time. In second, The Amityville Horror (2005) had a solid second weekend hold by horror standards, while Sahara held well in third. The other nationwide debuts were a bust: A Lot Like Love opened to $7.6 million, Kung Fu Hustle mustered just $6.7 million and King's Ransom was ignored with $2.1 milllion. * Weekend Report Ten Years Ago - 2000 Trying to offer summer excitement in April, U-571 emerged with a chart-topping $19.6 million at 2,583 sites. That was and still is the highest-grossing debut ever for a submarine thriller, although it didn't pack quite as many »

Jack's plan unfolded the previous week and last night's episode showed Chair struggling with fallout from the Indecent Proposal-esque development that split them.

Eric's New and Surprisingly Hot "Gossip Girl" Love Interest

6 April 2010 8:12 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

*** Spoilers From Last Night's Episode Ahead. ***

Last night's Gossip Girl wasted no time in establishing that Eric van der Woodsen (of the famed Manhattan van der Woodsen's) was single and back on the dating market. Over breakfast he asks stepsister and besty Jenny and stepfather Rufus for advice on a common Facebook quandary: Should he unfriend recent Japanese acquaintances Hidayo and Riyuke? "Hidayo was more than a friend," but Riyuke "has a fondness for group photos and bath houses."

So this is the sort of thing the Manhattan moneyed class discusses over breakfast! I was wondering. Everybody goes "yech!", so Eric hits unfriend on his Japanese bathhouse gayshas. But that leaves young master van der Woodsen all wistful. "Hidayo was supposed to be my rebound from Jonathan. Now I need a rebound from Hidayo." (And from Riyuke I'm guessing you might need treatment for crabs.)

We have to wait practically »
