Subtlety and character lift this hilarious comedy above the rest

We get so many American TV shows here in the UK but sadly Saturday Night Live has never been one of them. Over 35 years the show has become a Us institution and a breeding ground for comedy stars, a talent line which Hollywood began exploiting in the late 1970s when SNL players included Chevy Chase, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. Later names to emerge and forge Hollywood careers include Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Will Ferrell and Tina Fey.

Successful films such as The Blues Brothers and Wayne's World began life as SNL sketches, although it must also be mentioned that so did movie disasters including A Night at the Roxbury, Coneheads and, most recently, MacGruber. DreamWorks Pipeline: ‘Madagascar’ Penguins Spin-Off & The End of Kodachrome

30 March 2011 9:07 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

DreamWorks has two new projects entering its pipeline: a spin-off film based on the penguins from Madagascar, and project focusing on the last days of the last photolab to develop Kodachrome film. [THR]

The studio bought Jonathan Tropper‘s pitch for the Kodachrome project, to be scripted by Tropper based on an article by the New York Times writer A.G. Sulzberger. Kodachrome color reversal film was manufactured for 74 years in a variety of types including 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, 35mm, and large formats for still photography. It was widely admired for its archive quality and was immortalized by Paul Simon in his famous pop song of the same name. (And if you’re not up on your 70′s pop tunes, the song was featured in a montage sequence in The Coneheads movie.)

The Kodachrome project is being developed by 21 Laps Entertainment, whose co-partner Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy may helm the picture. »

Top 7 Alien Teens In Film

20 February 2011 3:49 PM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.

Sometimes, an alien teen has to learn to make his way on Earth.  Other times, they have very human problems while still on their home planet.  Whether he wants to just fit in or she wants to see the world, alien teens are just like the terrestrial variety.  This weekend’s I Am Number Four tries to show us, once again, just how hard it can be to be an alien teen.  You have to get good grades in school and run away from a killer trying to track you down. Below are some of my favorites.

7. Lem from Planet 51 (2009)

Recap: Lem (voiced by Justin Long) is just a geeky alien teen trying to get noticed by the girl next door, Neera (voiced by Jessica Biel).Until the day that a strange alien from Earth (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) lands in »
