“Dinotasia”: Not Horror, But Pretty Awesome

7 November 2012 11:17 AM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

I’ll admit I had no idea what Dinotasia was until I read the following press release, and since then, it’s climbed up my Netflix queue like Sylvester Stallone in Cliffhanger. Or something that climbs well. The feature length animated film is co-directed by Werner Herzog as well as narrated by the guy (who has one of the top 24 voices in showbiz), and described as Sopranos meets prehistoric times. It has psychedelic drugs, violence, and some awesome visuals. Really, why hadn’t I heard of this before?! Get onboard people. It’s out now on DVD and Blu-Ray. Check out the press release, a trailer, and the cool poster.

From the Press Release:

Creative Differences announces the Tuesday, November 6, 2012, release of Dinotasia, an animated feature film narrated by Werner Herzog, on DVD/Blu-ray and digital platforms in the U.S. and Canada through Flatiron Film Company, a label of »

New Darklands Clip Reveals an Ancient Pagan Ritual

17 October 2012 5:30 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Back in September we learned that Darklands, the debut feature of director Julian Richards (The Last Horror Movie), will finally be released on November 20th; and a new clip from the occult shocker has arrived!

Richland says the clip was inspired by a pagan ritual he attended in Scotland whilst researching the screenplay. The event, known as The Beltane Fire, takes place in Edinburgh on April 30th, which is an important date in the pagan calender celebrating the coming of spring.

"Rituals such as Beltane (Walpurgis Night) and Samhain (Halloween) are based around the seasons and celebrate the success or failure of the harvest," explains Richards. "Records suggest that in the event of a bad harvest human sacrifices were made, but some historians believe this to be a myth propagated by Roman imperialists to portray themselves as a civilizing force."

Darklands presents a contemporary spin on these themes by setting the story in South Wales, »

Exclusive: Michael Rooker Talks Hypothermia!

3 October 2012 4:40 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Michael Rooker Talks Hypothermia, on DVD today!

We're huge Michael Rooker fans here, so when the opportunity came up to chat with him for a half an hour this past Sunday, we jumped on it. The actor currently has a lot going on in his career, including this week's DVD release of the creature feature on ice, Hypothermia. In it, Rooker stars as a family man forced to protect his wife and kids against a snow dwelling monster hellbent on consuming human flesh.

He also has Season 3 of The Walking Dead coming up in October, which finds him reprising the fan favorite role of Merle Dixon, not seen since Season 1. And he is playing one of the main characters in the popular video game franchise Call of Duty, which returns this November with Black Ops 2. And, just maybe, he will take on the voice of Rocket Raccoon in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. »

Tarantino To Cameo In Django Unchained?

27 September 2012 4:30 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Rex Linn is best known for appearing in CSI: Miami (as Detective Frank Tripp), The Walking Dead (as Palmer) and Cliffhanger (as Agent "Goddamn" Travers) but his biggest recent movie role so far is in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming spaghetti Western, Django Unchained – but it turns out the director has taken some of his lines for his own unplanned cameo.“Quentin told me that he liked the scene so much he wanted to be in it, too, and that he would also be taking some of my lines,” Linn explained to Oklahoma news site NewsOK.com.“So, you'll know the scenes when you see them. We'll be on the screen with Don Johnson and Jonah Hill. The scenes may not be long, but you will remember them.”Precise plot details around Django are few and far between, and even at this point, Linn's role as Tennessee Harry is unclear. Tonight's MovieMovie: The Specialist

21 September 2012 2:30 PM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

He may be expendable now but in 1994, Sylvester Stallone was a bomb expert helping Sharon Stone destroy the mafia that killed her family in The Specialist.

The movie came out when Stallone was at the peak of his career, just after his megahits Cliffhanger and Demolition Man and The Specialist went on to become his third hit in a row. The movie earned more than $170M internationally. But Stallone nearly missed starring in the movie. Steven Seagal was the studio's first choice, but they balked at his $9M salary and offered the role to Sly. David Fincher was also slated to direct but producers got cold feet after the poor performance of Aliens 3.

Awfully Good: Judge Dredd

I've seen Dredd and am proud to report that it kicks enough ass to wipe the horrid memory of the 1995 Stallone version from your mind. But for old time's sake. After Cliffhanger turned out to be pretty awesome and Demolition Man was enjoyably over the top (pun intended), Sylvester Stallone decided he was due for a cinematic stinker. So »

Julian Richards' Debut Feature Darklands Getting a North American Release

8 September 2012 12:49 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Thought to be lost, or at least tied up in legal limbo, Darklands, the debut feature of director Julian Richards (The Last Horror Movie), will finally be released in the Us and Canada by Mvd Distribution with a street date set for November 20th, 2012.

From the Press Release:

Darklands, which has been cited by UK critics as laying the foundation of the British horror revival, follows a newspaper reporter investigating the death of a steelworker killed in an industrial accident who uncovers a conspiracy involving paganism, witchcraft and human sacrifice. Starring Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger), Jon Finch (Frenzy) and Rowena King (Wild Saragossa Sea), Darklands is frequently compared to Robin Hardy’s 1970’s cult classic The Wicker Man, but the writer/director also acknowledges a debt to Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’S Baby.

Darklands, which won the Melies d’Argent for Best European Fantasy Film in 1997, launched the directing career of Julian Richards, »

Fanboy Fantasy: The Women of 'The Expendables 3'

16 August 2012 12:00 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

This weekend I'm getting a sixpack of antifreeze and duffel bag filled with raw ground beef and going to see "The Expendables 2."

I'm certain I enjoyed the first one (it's a bit of a haze) and if my crumpling into manly tears at the mere sight of the new one's outdoor ads is any indication, I'll have a blast yet again. One thing we must ask, however. Whither the chicks?

I say with full respect and courtesy to the fairer sex, why have you not been included in this battle royale of badassery? Yes, there are some women in the film - Yu Nan will play an agent named Maggie, Charisma Carpenter is back as Statham's g.f. and someone named Amanda Ooms is on hand to give the film some oomph - but where are the female equivalents of the Expendables? Where are the Expendablettes?

Game of Thrones star Charles Dance is 'daddy of all gangsters' in St George's Day

30 July 2012 2:10 PM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Redditch-born stage and screen star Charles Dance, known to sci-fi fans for his role as Ripley's confidante Dr Clemens in Alien 3 and now on TV as Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, will next be seen on the big screen in the crime thriller St George's Day.

Metrodome Distribution today announced it is to release the film in the UK on September 7, 2012.

The film's Facebook page says of Dance's involvement: "A sterling cameo role in the film is held by him. We hardly ever think of C.D. as a gangster... this role though is of Trenchard, the daddy of them all.

"Knowing, strongly connected, and has stayed under the wire his entire illicit career. Dance exhibits his usual great command of a role, you are really going to enjoy this."
