Arizona Dream (1992)
Axel Blackmar: I wasn't falling in love, because I never felt any weight, because I was flying in love for the first time in my life.
Axel Blackmar: Whenever I try to remember my dreams, I always turn 'em into stories. But dreams are like life. You can't catch it with your hands because you can't catch something you don't really see. If you believe in your dreams, you could be sure that any force, a tornado, a volcano or a typhoon, wouldn't be able to knock you out of love; because love exists on its own.
Axel Blackmar: [last English lines] After the storm, I couldn't say life was beautiful. But all I kept hoping for was the Eskimo boy of my dream to run out of one of these doors and hug me. And even though I no longer felt like a fish and realized I knew nothing, I was happy to be alive.
Axel Blackmar: But what's the point of breathing if somebody already tells you the difference between an apple and a bicycle? If I bite a bicycle and ride an apple, then I'll know the difference.
Axel Blackmar: I never thought it could happen, but love hit me like an elephant and I was thrown into a jungle of dreams.
Axel Blackmar: These philosophies, with pies and bananas and Q-tips and...
Paul Leger: I'm an artist.
Axel Blackmar: You're a bullshit artist.
Paul Leger: Bullshit artist, artist, whatever. Art is art.
Axel Blackmar: What do you think?
Grace Stalker: About what?
Axel Blackmar: About us kind of belonging together?
Grace Stalker: What about this lamp? You think Paul will like this lamp?
Axel Blackmar: Yea, he'll-he'll love it. What do you think?
Grace Stalker: I think two wrong don't make a right.
Axel Blackmar: Meaning what?
Grace Stalker: Meaning us: two wrongs.
Axel Blackmar: What if we're not? What if we're two rights and everybody else is wrong?
Grace Stalker: Either way we're gonna be screwed, Axel.
Axel Blackmar: But at least we can be screwed together.
Axel Blackmar: [Grace and Axel are wrapping presents for Elaine's birthday] I was thinking about what you said.
Grace Stalker: What did I say?
Axel Blackmar: That... I was supposed to be with you.
Grace Stalker: Could you hand me that tape?
Axel Blackmar: You know... when I first met her, I felt something kind of strong. I didn't know what it was, I didn't know what to call it. Now everything is kinda turned around and she's like a... she's like this cloud... that I can see through. And on the other side, I see you. And I feel something very strong. I think I know what to call it now.
Axel Blackmar: Does that make any sense?
Grace Stalker: Could you put your finger here for a second?
Axel Blackmar: My dad always said that work was like a hat you put on your head. And even if you didn't have pants , you didn't have to walk down the street ashamed of your ass as long as you had a hat...
Axel Blackmar: Most people think I count fish, but I don't. I look at them. I look at their souls and read their dreams and then I let them into my dreams.
Axel Blackmar: Elaine, I was trying to tell ya the other night: Eskimos believe that even though you die, you're never really dead.
Elaine Stalker: What are you then?
Axel Blackmar: Uh, you're Infinity. See they believe that when the physical suit of skin dies, it becomes apart of the Earth. But your soul, keeps going, y'know? Into other things like uh, trees or fish or rocks. Or even other people who're actually at that point you.
Elaine Stalker: What if you don't like what you've turned into?
Axel Blackmar: You just wait. You wait a few years and then you'll turn into something else.
Axel Blackmar: If you believe in your dreams, you could be sure that any force, a tornado, a volcano or a typhoon, wouldn't be able to knock you out of love; because love exists on its own.
Axel Blackmar: If you and I were to die in a plane crash it wouldn't matter, because our souls would keep on going and we would love each other from place to place - because it is infinity.
Grace Stalker: I'm not going to die. I'm going to live forever until one day I'll wake up and I'll be a turtle.
Paul Leger: How would I die when I'm 35? How would I die? I'll tell you how I'd die. I'd take off all my clothes and I'd get into a bathtub filled with ice-cold vodka. I'd have a TV in the room with me and I'd be watching "North by Northwest." And just when the scene comes with the airplane I'd pull the TV in the bathtub and I'd shock myself! I hate that film.
Grace Stalker: Life is beautiful.
Axel Blackmar: [referring to giving her mother a plane] I think what you did is beautiful.
Axel Blackmar: Columbus wouldn't think I was crazy for building a flying machine, because history is all dreams. No rules or books. It's just there, waiting to be discovered like when Columbus found this place. I don't know if he found his dream.
Axel Blackmar: My English teacher talked about this Russian guy who said that if you see a gun in the first half of a book, you can be sure it'll go off in the second half. Somebody was going to use that gun.
[Looking at himself in the mirror]
Axel Blackmar: Hello! Hello. *Hello.*
