Storyline

In the far future, a young man called Justy Tylor is looking for the easy life. To that end, he signs up for the space navy. While his entrance exam ends with him making his computer tester literally malfunction and explode, Earth finds itself in a space-war with an alien enemy called the Raalgon empire and the navy gets a lot less picky as a result. Tylor is assigned to the Benefits and Pension department where he quickly and inadvertently plays a role in resolving a terrorist hostage situation with a retired admiral. As a reward, Tylor is given command of a destroyer. Now he must participate in that war for the safety of Earth in which he proves to be unbeatable. Whether it is by sheer dumb luck or strategic genius, nobody really knows, maybe not even Tylor himself. Written by Kenneth Chisholm <kchishol@execulink.com>

Fantastic, Fun and Frivolous Series
6 March 2007 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

I very much enjoyed this series but before I move onto the review I want to give you one very important warning DO NOT watch it unless you are prepared to sit through until the very end because even when I was on episode 25 of 26 I was still debating what kind of series was it? Serious and all about self exploration or just plain stupid and funny at times? The answer well it's neither Captain Tylor is very much its own series and even that I've warned you it will probably take watching ALL 26 episodes before you believe me.

What I liked about this series was the character development and mainly how the actions of the main character reflected on all the others. The dynamic relationships between the Crew and the Captain, The Admiralty and the Captain, even The Enemy and the Captain are always changing and always brilliantly fun to watch.

Not many series can pull off going from making you want to ring the main character's neck to absolutely falling in love with the little guy but this series manages to do it, to do it a lot, and yet keep it fresh each time.

The graphics are a bit dated but still fairly good considering it is over a decade old and the music is also a bit old and possibly out of tune but still fun.

All in all if you have the patience to watch the series, to just sit back and enjoy and to get over that urge to say "what the?" every few seconds and just let the series take you for a bit of a ride I have to say this is the series for you!

Other recommendations: If you liked Dirty Pair Flash (I have only ever seen the second series) then you'll probably enjoy Tylor since the graphics are pretty close to comparable and it often contains the same goofy antics.
