Bryan Cranston discusses Zordon role in Power Rangers

8 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Last week it was announced that Bryan Cranston is set to portray the character of Zordon in Lionsgate and Saban’s upcoming Power Rangers movie, and now the Breaking Bad star has shared some details about the role in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“It’s motion capture and it’s a lot of CGI-work.,” states Cranston, who voiced the characters of Snizard and Twin Man in the first season of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series. “The tenant of that storyline is that this a real person who is trapped in this etherworld and it becomes this in-the-wall so to speak of [the command center], He still has a heart and mind, but an agenda that he’s got to get these five Power Rangers to defend the earth or else everyone they know will be killed. So, it’s exciting.”

Bryan Cranston to Play Zordon in the New Power Rangers Movie

21 June 2016 9:01 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Rita Repulsa’s nemesis has been cast in the new Power Rangers movie, as it’s been revealed that Bryan Cranston will play the wise Zordon.

Announced on the new Power Ranger movie’s official Twitter account, Bryan Cranston’s casting as Zordon will pit him against Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.

For those unfamiliar, in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series, Zordon and Repulsa were longtime enemies, and had fought in an intergalactic war that lasted thousands of years. Zordon managed to imprison Rita in a “space dumpster,” but not before the crafty antagonist trapped Zordon in a time warp. Zordon would go on to form the Power Rangers with the help of the robot Alpha 5, but he could only communicate with the teenaged team by appearing as a giant head floating in a blue tube.

‘Power Rangers’ Getting Multiplayer Mobile Game

15 June 2016 12:34 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Lionsgate and Saban are partnering with nWay for a “Power Rangers” multiplayer mobile action game next year, coinciding with the launch of the “Power Rangers” film.

The movie hits theaters worldwide on March 24. No specific date has been set yet for the game’s release.

“This alliance underscores our strategy of combining a world-class brand with a Triple-a game developer to create an exciting, high quality game with enormous upside,” said Lionsgate President of Interactive Ventures & Games Peter Levin. “With nWay’s ability to achieve console level play on mobile devices, the ‘Power Rangers’ game will appeal to a broad spectrum of core gamers and ‘Power Rangers’ fans alike.”

Lionsgate is bullish on “Power Rangers” with CEO Jon Feltheimer declaring last month that the studio could wind up with as many as seven movies.

The studio has tapped Dean Israelite to direct the film and has cast five young actors to star — Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and Rj Cyler as the Blue Ranger. Elizabeth Banks will play the evil alien witch Rita Repulsa.

“For decades, the ‘Power Rangers’ brand has provided new and engaging opportunities for fans to experience the iconic franchise and we are thrilled to continue that legacy by joining forces with Lionsgate, our feature film partner, and nWay to create a state-of-the-art mobile game,” said Saban Brands CEO Janet Hsu. “With these phenomenal partners, we will connect millions of Power Rangers and gaming fans globally with a mobile gaming experience unlike anything else.”

San Francisco-based nWay has worked with developers on games based on “Star Wars,” “James Bond,” “Indiana Jones,” “The Godfather” and “Star Fox.”

Lionsgate and Saban Brands are the ideal partners and ‘Power Rangers’ is the perfect property on which to base a game with player-to-player competition, epic battles and intense action that raises the bar for the genre,” said nWay CEO Taehoon Kim.

“The ‘Power Rangers’ global fan base provides a powerful foundation for the game’s launch, and the high quality of gameplay makes this a natural for the e-sports trend. ‘Power Rangers’ is an incredibly beloved and recognizable property, and its deep and detailed mythology will enable us to create a rich, multi-layered world for gamers everywhere.”

Haim Saban launched “Power Rangers” with the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” live-action TV show more than 20 years ago. The brand includes toys, apparel, costumes, video games, DVDs and comic books.

Lionsgate has been expanding its involvement in games with investments in Telltale Games, Next Games, Mobcrush and Fifth Journey; launches of the “Orange Is the New Black” (Igt/DoubleDown Casino), “Point Break” (Payday), “Mad Men” (Zynga) and Kevin Hart mobile games; acquisition of rights to gaming properties “Borderlands” and “Candy Crush Saga”; and virtual reality gaming initiatives built around “John Wick” and “Now You See Me,” as well as a Vr game partnership with Google’s recently-announced Daydream platform.

X-Men: Apocalypse Needs to Be The End for Bryan Singer

9 May 2016 2:01 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The director proves that he no longer has any interesting X-Men stories to tell.

53 years of X-Men comic stories and an almost unlimited budget, and this is the best they could come up with?

It’s a sentiment that X-Men fans have lived through in the past and one they are doomed to live through again when Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27. Apocalypse, for all its bluster and all-star cast pedigree, is more of the same. And more of the same isn’t going to cut it, especially when its own studio is taking risks on characters such as Deadpool and winning big with audiences. While an X-Men movie doesn’t need to take an irreverent stance or curse its way into our hearts, it would be nice to see it do something new.

That was the case with X-Men: First Class, the 2011 rebirth of an X-Men franchise that had been floundering for »

Is Rita Repulsa Actually the Green Ranger in Power Rangers?

5 May 2016 6:05 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier today, fans got a look at the official costumes for Lionsgate's Power Rangers reboot, which is currently shooting in Vancouver. While this is our first time seeing the heroes' costumes, we have previously seen photos from the set featuring two different versions of Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repulsa. It didn't take some fans long to notice a few striking similarities between the Rangers' and Rita Repulsa's suits, which has lead to a new fan theory that Rita Repulsa is actually the Green Ranger.

A Reddit user posted a retouched photo that offers a side-by-side glimpse at one of the Elizabeth Banks set photos, compared with an altered version of Naomi Scott's Pink Ranger costume. As you can see in the image below, both are quite similar, although not quite identical. Yet it still may be a valid fan theory. Naturally, we don't expect to get any »
