I'm not mad at Lena Dunham, creator of the new HBO show Girls. She wanted to write about her life -- which is filled with white folks -- and people gave her some money to do it. Her voice is a new voice for television. Despite the misogynist rants of Three and a Half Men co-creator Lee Arohnson about television reaching the point of "labia saturation," women have hardly been at the center of television or film production.

I think the backlash against the show -- largely by feminists of color -- is as much about the kind of praise it received as it is about the show itself. When countless reviews gush about her representing this generation, of course it is going to irritate all the people who are invisible on the show and to the critics. Ahead of Discovery Communications’ upfront presentation in New York this afternoon, Own: Oprah Winfrey Network announced the green light for four primetime unscripted series, Elura and Michele Take Staten Island, about 2 Staten Island best friends who are former prosecutors,  Iyanla Fix My Life, starring inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant, Married to the Army: Alaska, about army wives in Alaska, and Six Little McGhees, about a family with sextuplets. Additionally, the network has renewed Oprah’s Master Class, which has posted ratings increases in Season 2, for a third season and has ordered 10 additional episodes of one of the fledgling network’s most popular shows, docu-series Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s, about the family behind the popular St. Louis soul food restaurant. Rosie O’Donnell used her Own talk show to — most diplomatically — share her take on Oprah Winfrey’s decision to end the evening talk show after its March 30 telecast.

“It was fair,” O’Donnell said in response to those who called The Rosie Show‘s axing unjust. “Listen, Oprah gave me an amazing shot… she put me back on TV, she believed in me… and off I came to Chicago with the best of intentions, trying to do what I thought would be kind of easy for me. But it wasn’t.”
