TNT has greenlit 10 episodes for a series based on The Librarians franchise, slated to air in late 2014. The TV movies told the story of a group of extra special librarians who live beneath the Metropolitan Public Library in New York and safeguard mystical relics from forces of evil by slapping them with outrageous overdue fees. The plot is a messy stew of Indiana Jones, National Treasure, and Hell Boy …but the product is less than the sum of its parts.

Writer John Ridley — who won his first Academy Award on Sunday for adapting 12 Years of Slave — credits his long career as a TV comedy writer for helping him transition successfully to the big screen. What with the standard cast costs, Almost Human must have blown its budget substantially this week on guest stars. For starters they introduced the lethal female counterpart to Dorian, the lovely Danica, played by ex-mma fighter Gina Carano, who manages to be all-woman and all-synthetic killing machine in one, and neatly resolves the mystery about what dangerous object is sat in the police evidence locker.
And, if that wasn’t enough - and I’d never suggest to Carano's face it wouldn’t be - they also chucked in the mercurial John Larroquette, as the creator of the Drn series, Dr Nigel Vaughn.
