With ‘Mom,’ Chuck Lorre Finally Earned His Stripes as One of TV’s Top Auteurs

27 June 2016 2:40 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Comedy mastermind Chuck Lorre was an auteur all along. It just took “Mom” to make you realize it.

The CBS comedy, starring Allison Janney and Anna Faris as a mother and daughter both in recovery, is by far the most personal of Lorre’s career. The creator behind shows such as “Grace Under Fire,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory” has been open about his own path to sobriety, a topic that is central to “Mom.”

“Broken people trying to repair their lives, I can relate to that,” Lorre recently told IndieWire. “I know a lot of people that can relate to the comedy in the repair business of a person’s life. I think we’re all in the process of doing a little mending.”

Lorre is still best known for “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory,” two megahits »

Chuck Lorre on Why ‘Mom’ Is His Hardest But Most Rewarding Job

8 June 2016 9:15 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Chuck Lorre has been writing and producing comedy for TV for over 25 years, from his days on “Roseanne,” “Grace Under Fire” and “Cybill” through today, when he helms “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mom” as part of his overall deal with Warner Bros. TV. Here he talks about why he relies on the multicam format, what he’s learned from producing legend Norman Lear, and why he calls “Mom” the hardest but most rewarding job he’s ever had.

You’ve had an impressive string of successes. What’s your secret?

I really believe that the foundation of a good show is characters, and the jokes come second. If you don’t care about the people, it doesn’t really matter what’s on the page. Situation comedy is a misnomer. I think for a long time, the situation has just been life. It doesn’t start with a contrived situation or a joke. »

The Good Wife Recap: Lewd — Looks Like a Lady

20 March 2016 8:00 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

I’m not sure if The Good Wife‘s Lucca Quinn takes longer than your average attorney to score a bowl of chips while out for drinks at a Chicago pub.

But even if said mission required her to exit said establishment, walk down the block to the nearest corner store and smuggle back a bag of Funyuns, I’m pretty sure her pals Alicia Florrick and Jason Crouse wouldn’t have time to safely “shock the monkey” underneath their corner table before Lucca’s return.
