Martin Clunes and Griff Rhys Jones play two British soldiers returning home after being mustered (demobbed) out of the army. For Captain Ian Deasey (Jones) it's back to his wife and son and boring but steady desk job. For Lance Corporal Dick Dobsen (Clunes) it's a chance to reinvent himself and become the success he longs for. But London is still doing blackouts and rationing and things are still far from normal. Dobsen is a complete rogue or close to it and takes advantage of every opportunity that comes his way legal or illegal. And his plan is to save his buddy Deasey by bringing him along for the ride. The series provides a nice look at post war London and the difficulties in adjusting to civilian life. There are some laughs along the way but for the most part it is fairly serious drama. If you are expected an outlandish comedy because Clunes stars, you will be disappointed.
