Too Late Review

27 April 2016 10:30 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s hard to shake the influences behind writer/director Dennis Hauck’s feature debut Too Late.

Heavily inspired by the ’80s-’90s works from Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, Robert Altman and Quentin Tarantino, it’s one of those imitation films that always runs the risk of jeopardizing its own potential by basking in the shadows of its predecessors. And it is, indeed, perhaps just a little too reminiscent of those films — from Jackie Brown to Boogie Nights to Goodfellas — to really stand out on its own, or to become more than an elusive, moody wannabe at times.

But shot and projected entirely in 35mm film, and in a series of five single-shot acts, it’s nevertheless a beauty to behold. Impressive, if quite showy, in its presentation and bleeding with pulp, suave and sophistication, it’s a copycat for sure, but a damn good one — a crisp neo-noir »

Original cast members that will be back include many previously-announced people, and the ensemble will feature the likes of Kyle MacLachlan, Sherilyn Fenn, Madchen Amick, Sheryl Lee, Dana Ashbrook, David Duchovny, Miguel Ferrer, Grace Zabriskie, Peggy Lipton, Ray Wise, Wendy Robie, Russ Tamblyn, and Catherine E. Coulson, among many others.

As for the newcomers, some of the bold names that stand out include Monica Bellucci, Jim Belushi, Michael Cera, Laura Dern, Jay R. Ferguson (a.k.a. Stan from "Mad Men"), Ernie Hudson ("Ghostbusters"), Ashley Judd, »

11 Movie Parodies From Great TV Shows

13 April 2016 11:00 AM, PDT | backstage.com | See recent Backstage news »

This week Comedy Central’s “Broad City” parodied the climactic restaurant scene from “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and Ilana’s hilarious uncovering of Abbi’s double life unraveled almost identically to Robin Williams’ big reveal as a cross-dressing babysitter in the 1993 film. “Broad City” leaves no stone unturned in the scene scripting Ilana’s big meltdown word for word from Sally Field’s original freakout. Mara Wilson, Williams’ onscreen daughter in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” even appears in the episode as Abbi and Ilana’s waitress. This homage aired just weeks after the series spoofed the final performance from “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” featuring a cameo from none other than Whoopi Goldberg herself. These parodies are reminiscent of other classic homages throughout the years. Here are 11 other unforgettable film and television parodies. “Boy Meets World”Much of Season 5 of “Boy Meets World” hinged on the coupling, breakup, and reunion of Cory »

Why TV Reboots Are Pointless, and We Should Just Let Go

1 April 2016 11:45 AM, PDT | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

Fuller House premiered on Netflix this year, after nearly 12 months of rumors, reunions, and official teasers and trailers. Most of the original cast returned for the reboot, and the updated storyline - D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron Bure) is now a recently widowed veterinarian with two boys and a new baby, and her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Bff Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) move in to their original San Francisco home to help her care for her kids - seems to be a hit with fans of the original show, so much so that it was renewed for a second season. Fuller House seems like a fun time, and it's clear that there are people out there who have enjoyed getting to find out where all these characters have ended up - but I haven't watched, and likely won't ever. I actually won't be watching any of the upcoming TV reboots, »

We could have called the Veronica Mars movie. We could have guessed that Twin Peaks would get a reprieve from cancellation. And it made sense that The X-Files would get a follow-up series. But Full House? All these years later? This is one we didn't see coming. We got eight seasons and 192 episodes detailing the life lessons learned by Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), his three daughters and all the other people who came through the beautiful San Francisco Victorian they called home. And yet we're getting more in the form of Fuller House - this Friday, in fact, in true Tgif style. »

Batman Beyond: The Movie? Will Friedle Talks Playing A Live-Action Superhero

17 February 2016 3:11 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Warner Bros. Pictures/Disney

Will Friedle recently appeared at Dallas Comic-Con Fan Days and, while there were naturally numerous questions from the audience about his experience with Boy Meets World, he fielded quite a few questions about his work as a voice actor as well. Many audience members were especially concerned with whether or not he could ever see himself portraying live-action versions of his characters from Batman Beyond or Kim Possible. His response?

“I couldn’t fit into the batsuit if I tried. And Ron Stoppable, I think…there were talks for years and years and years that they were going to do a live-action Kim Possible show. But the thing was they wanted our voices, and you couldn’t really do that because you want the actors to be able to do what they wanted to do, so… I would be all for a great live-action Kim Possible show. »
