Casablanca To Stream — Free — On Facebook

16 May 2012 11:02 AM, PDT | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

Warner Bros. is going all-out to promote its 70th anniversary edition of the Humphrey Bogart/Ingrid Bergman classic Casablanca including a one-night-only streaming of the movie on Facebook on May 16 — free. Warner Bros. Digital Distribution said that it will stream at 7:00 p.m. in the Eastern and Western time zones, but it was not clear whether that meant that viewers in the West would be able to watch the movie at 4:00 p.m. and viewers in the East, at 10:00 p.m. To make matters even more confusing, the company said that viewing must begin “within two hours of the Pacific start time.” The free availability of the movie comes following the release of the Blu-ray/DVD combo package of Casablanca, containing almost everything you wanted to know about the movie, including the documentaries Casablanca: An Unlikely Classic; Michael Curtiz: The Greatest Director You Never Heard of; The Brothers Warner; You Must Remember This: The Warner Bros. Story and Jack L. Warner: The Last Mogul. If that still doesn’t satisfy film buffs, there’s also an ebook being released called Inside the Script, containing Hal Wallis’s shooting script and additional items including Warner Bros. founder Jack Warner’s telegrams and memos concerning the movie. »

Casablanca 70th Anniversary Limited Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo Review

17 April 2012 9:08 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

You must remember this…” Calling Casablanca a classic is something of an understatement. It’s the machinery of Hollywood in the 40’s at its pinnacle. It’s got great direction from Michael Curtiz, a witty and fast paced script, and stars. Stars like stars should be – indelible - and a cast of memorable supporting players who pop in brief appearances. Huphrey Bogart plays Rick, the owner of a bar in Casablanca whose life gets shaken up by the appearance of Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), his long lost love. But she’s now married to a leading resistance fighter, and there’s a war on. Our review of the 70th Anniversary edition of Casablanca on Blu-ray follows after the jump. The film opens introducing the world of Casablanca. The city is a port where many are stuck waiting to get to America. Many are predators, looking to get out by any means necessary. »

Blu-ray Review: ‘Casablanca: 70th Anniversary Edition’ Worth Remembering

30 March 2012 7:36 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Every seasoned movie lover can attest to having a favorite shot in Michael Curtiz’s 1942 classic “Casablanca,” a picture practically overflowing with indelible imagery. The first appearance of freedom fighter-turned-café owner Rick (Humphrey Bogart) decked out in a white tux, the tearful letter that turns to literal tears in a rainstorm, the final walk through the fog…all unforgettable.

Yet the shot that remains closest to my heart is the one that lingers on the face of Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), as she becomes hopelessly lost in the evocative notes and lyrics of a song from her past. No actress embodies earthy sensuality and misty-eyed passion quite like Bergman, who was at the peak of her luminous beauty at age 26. Her trancelike state of nostalgic longing never fails to mesmerize me, as her eyes convey what words could only feebly articulate.

Blu-ray Rating: 5.0/5.0

Casablanca 70th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray Review

26 March 2012 11:32 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

There are bigger movies, and there are better movies, but few movies have become the go to selection when throwing out favorite or best film titles, and fewer still have become as synonymous with Hollywood itself. A film that was famously released without a great deal of expectation coming from anyone involved with its creation, it has become not only an icon of the movie industry, but an inescapable part of American culture.

The Casablanca 70th Anniversary Edition adds even more bonuses to watch, plus some physical goodies, making it a must buy, and great gift, especially for anyone who hasn’t broken down and taken the title home before.

The standard caveat to this edition, especially among the serious fans who pay attention to such things, is going to be the fact that the film had an Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray release only a few years ago, and that edition »

The ‘Blue Velvet’ Project, #94

Second #4418, 73:38

At Ben’s, at last. The woman, the doll, and the painting above them—framed by the green (velvet?) curtains—telegraph Frank’s entrance. They are a tightly composed grouping in an open frame, whose curtains anticipate the vaudeville show which is about to unfold, complete with Ben’s lip-synched performance of “In Dreams,” some stock violence, and a running gag that features Jeffrey as the butt of a joke he does not understand.

Ben’s apartment is an anarchy of crossed signals and mental jump cuts. The year after Blue Velvet’s release, Robert Coover’s story collection A Night at the Movies, or, You Must Remember This was published. It includes a story, “Lap Dissolves,” that uses the idea of cinematic transitions as an organizing principle at the sentence level, and begins:

She clings to the edge of the cliff, her feet kicking in the wind, »

Time goes by and Bogart is still a box-office hit

7 February 2012 4:00 PM, PST | The Independent | See recent The Independent news »

"You must remember this," the song goes in Casablanca (1942). Well, yes, we do. It is one of the most familiar moments in one of the most familiar films ever made. Audiences began their beautiful friendship with Michael Curtiz's movie in the middle of the Second World War. That friendship shows no signs of cooling. Casablanca is just about to be re-released in British cinemas for the very first time in... five years. Last time Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman were back on the big screen in 2007 (to mark the 65th anniversary of Casablanca), the film made over £100,000 at the UK box-office – no fortune but more than many new British pictures manage. The distributors (Park Circus) are confident that the film, now 70 years old, will perform even better this time round when it is re-released in time for Valentine's Day. »
