Why Score for Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’ Was Disqualified by Oscar Music Branch
One of this season’s biggest Oscar snubs thus far is the disqualification of the “Silence” score by the husband and wife composing team of Kim Allen Kluge and Kathryn Kluge. Their score is daringly musical in the way that it emanates from nature, yet so subtle that it didn’t pass muster with the Academy’s music branch as “a substantial body of music.”

In other words, the classical composers were penalized for succeeding too well in creating an unconventional, Zen-like score at director Martin Scorsese’s urging: “When we first met with Mr. Scorsese, he said he didn’t want Japanese music or Gregorian Chants or any music — he wanted the sounds of nature,” Kim told IndieWire.

And after reading the novel by Shūsaku Endō about the 17th century persecution and torture of Japanese Christians, they understood why. “This is where it gets complex,” said Kim, who also

Silence” isn’t in theaters until Christmas Day, but you can now stream the score to Martin Scorsese’s latest film. Kim Allen Kluge & Kathryn Kluge have hardly composed a conventional soundtrack, however, melding birdsong and other ambient noise into the kind of textural soundscape that blends into the background. Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson star in the religious drama as a trio of Jesuit priests who travel from Portugal to Japan to spread the good word — not that everyone is ready to hear it. Scorsese has wanted to make the film, an adaptation of Shūsaku Endō’s 1966 novel of the same name, for nearly 30 years; it was previously adapted by Masahiro Shinoda in 1971. Here’s the tracklist:

Sleepy Hollow Midseason Premiere Recap: Keep Calm and Witness On
Let’s be naughty and treat this recap of Sleepy Hollow‘s midseason premiere like one of those frozen novelty cones sold by ice cream trucks: We’ll bite off and savor the delicious end first. Sound yummy?

Yes, most of us were fairly certain that Abbie hadn’t shuffled off to that great Corbin’s Cabin in the sky. Still, going nearly the full hour without a glimpse of Ichabod’s petite partner was no fun — and Team Wtf was much the worse for wear. Jenny cried. Joe got pistol-whipped. Sophie breached the archives (?!).

Sleepy Hollow Recap: Secrets and Spies, Plus: The Witnesses as Roomies

You’ve gotta begrudgingly grant Sleepy Hollow‘s Pandora a little respect.

Girlfriend shows up in town last episode, and already she’s harnessed a secret-sucking shadow monster that — however inadvertently — gets the Witnesses to confess their darkest confessions to each other? And that treevil she’s growing in the ruins should be ready to take over the town in, what, two more episodes? (Take that, Henry and your season-long tinkering with that silly model town!)

All I’m saying is, the Third Tribulation better get to the bullpen and start warming up its arm, because Ol’ Boxy-but-Bad works quickly.

Watch: Mumford & Sons' 'Whispers in the Dark' music video
A lot of bands have pre-show rituals, what it takes for the members to pump themselves up for the stage. For Mumford & Sons in their video for "Whispers in the Dark," theirs may sometimes involve a sea adventure and fashions from the 1800s. While Marcus Mumford spiritual, desirous lyrics may point to an actual "ark," but the lead singer's chosen vessel is a motorcycle here, the leather jacket covering his usual tweed vest. "There’s something a little different this time, with a concept concocted by the band in conjunction with director Jim Canty and featuring all four band members. It...

Watch: Mumford & Sons Wear Fake Beards, Ride Motorcycles
Marcus Mumford may be the frontman of Mumford & Sons (and likely the only member general audiences can name), but the band's new music video for "Whispers in the Dark" also highlights band members Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane, as they apply fake beards, run in slow-motion, and explore a ship. "Whispers in the Dark" shows each member of the band in his own corner of the video, getting ready for a Mumford & Sons gig. The four meet up at the end of the clip as the corners come together.

"Whispers in the Dark" is a single off of Mumford & Sons' latest album, "Babel," which took home the Grammy award for Album of the Year. Released in September, "Babel" also produced hits such as "I Will Wait" and "Lover of the Light."

Mumford & Sons are in the midst of an international tour, playing sold-out shows in cities including Munich,

‘Whispers in the Dark’ Video: Marcus Mumford Motorcycles
The new clip for Mumford & Sons's "Whispers in the Dark" begins with intrigue. What's happening? Is the band broken up? Are they starring in some kind of tribute to The Usual Suspects? Is this going to be four music videos in one? Nah, it's just a kind of baffling travelogue of each Mumfordian's trip to a big gig. Marcus motorcycles, the hunky one drives a car and does some slo-mo running, the tall one takes photos and walks on a boat, and the banjo one gets his beard prosthetically applied — sacrilege! It's less of a narrative than the Idris Elba video, but also less cryptic.

Watch: Mumford & Sons play 'Dark' track on 'Jools Holland'
In case you haven't heard, those Mumford & Sons fellows are quite popular. A week following the drop of their new album "Babel," the British roots rockers took to the stage on "Later... With Jools Holland" in the U.K., as the show made its new season premiere Tuesday (Oct. 2) night. The Mumfords performed their track "Whispers in the Dark," off of "Babel," stomping through a barrage of banjo and acoustic guitar. The music program aired only segments of the Mumford & Sons stop-offs; they'll broadcast the longer, complete taping this Friday. The first night's guests also included singer Bobby Womack, who led...

Mumford & Sons Releases First Single Off 'Babel' Album

Just a week shy after beginning their 15-day U.S. tour, Mumford & Sons has officially debuted their first single off their sophomore album! Babel is set for a September release and the British gentleman just couldn't help but give the fans a little preview. At the Hoboken concert last Wednesday at Pier A, it was evident that one of two songs would become the first single: "Lover of the Night" or "I Will Wait." Though both equally charming and banjo-driven, the foursome have decided to lead the way with "I Will Wait."

Is This A Future Grammy-Nominated Album?

Is This A Future Grammy-Nominated Album?
How do you follow-up a Grammy-nominated debut album? With a Grammy-nominated sophomore album, of course! If you're planning to participate in a Grammy pool next year, you should probably wager a few bucks on Mumford and Sons' upcoming album Babel.

While the British quartet failed to take home a golden gramophone last year for their smashing debut album Sigh No More -- even Grammy goddess Adele called it her favorite album -- Marcus Mumford and the boys may have another shot with their highly anticipated second release.

Mumford and Sons will release Babel on Sept. 25, the same day that both the new Green Day album ¡Uno! and the new No Doubt album, Push and Shove, drop.

Mumford and Sons issued the following statement regarding Babel's upcoming release:

"We had started writing new songs well before we got into the studio to record. At first, we peeled ourselves off the road quite reluctantly.

Mumford & Sons Reveal Details Of New Album, Babel

By Zachary Swickey

At long last, British folk band Mumford & Sons have provided details on their sophomore album, which the band has dubbed Babel and now has an official release date of September 25 through Glassnote Records.

Babel follows the band’s multi-platinum-selling debut Sigh No More. Sigh garnered the band two Grammy nominations – Best New Artist and Best Rock Song for “Little Lion Man” – and while the band lost both, they still got to perform with music legend Bob Dylan at the Grammy ceremony.

While their release is still a few months away, the band has not shied away from debuting some of the new material during their live show: both “Lovers’ Eyes” and “Ghosts We Knew” have been featured on recent tours.

"We are more than excited to release 'Babel' into the world. We had started writing new songs well before we got into the studio to record,” the band said on their website.

Tea Leoni interview: Tower Heist, Brett Ratner, Deep Impact and Jurassic Park III

What’s it like to work with Brett Ratner? Why is Alan Alda scary? And why was Jurassic Park III quite so special for her? Tea Leoni has been giving us some answers…

It was very early in the morning, Us time, when I was connected to Tea Leoni to have a natter about the DVD and Blu-ray release of Tower Heist. It was mid-afternoon in the UK, and I’d had the benefit of many coffees. Tea Leoni, I suspect, had not, as she reminded me several times during our chat that it was very early.

But it didn’t affect, or didn’t seem to, what she was talking about. And it turned out to be a really interesting chat, not least when we got around to her thoughts on Jurassic Park III. Here’s how it went…

I’ve just been watching the deleted scenes from Tower Heist,
