Entertainment News: ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’ Glen Campbell Dies at 81

9 August 2017 7:11 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Nashville – Glen Campbell had many acts in his long career – sought after session guitarist, singer, TV & movie star and country personality – but his greatest contribution to culture may be the 2011 public announcement of his Alzheimer’s disease, and the documentary about the condition, “I’ll Be Me.” Campbell died on August 8th, 2017. He was 81.

The amiable persona he built as a pop music star was amplified by his variety show “The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour,” which ran on CBS-tv from 1969 to 1972. The show opened every week with his hit song “Gentle on My Mind,” and featured the good time personality of Campbell interacting with the guests and musical acts, which included an eclectic mix of artists like Ray Charles, The Monkees, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, The Righteous Brothers, Liza Minnelli and Tom Jones. And this was all before his signature song, “Rhinestone Cowboy,” became an unlikely number one hit in »

Female Fight Squad DVD Review

8 August 2017 7:30 AM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Ever since Ronda Rousey stepped into the Octogan and took the world by storm, Female Mma has gone to a whole new level.  Everyone from Ufc to Hollywood is trying to cash in on this new wave of female athletes.  Female Fight Squad is the latest attempt from Hollywood to capitalize on the swelling popularity of Women's Mma.  Starring martial artist, and stunt performer, Amy Johnston as the main lead, Rebecca, in a prototypical fight movie. A retired fighter must get back into the ring to save a loved one from a debt they owe. As any good throwback fighting movie it is only natural to cast an actor from the 80's or 90's.  Dolph Lundgren is that actor who stars in this movie, and doesn't overshadow the story at all.

The plot of the movie is nothing we haven't already seen from any Mma/fighting movie. A former fighter, »

Stars: Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror, Juju Chan, Cung Le, Keith David, Vladimir Kulich, Matthew Marsden, Charles Fathy | Written and Directed by Jesse V. Johnson

Ok, let’s all just say it together. Scott Adkins is the saviour of Dtv action movies. Charismatic, skilled and just a downright badass (and likeable) actor, whatever Adkins seemingly touches turns to gold – the Universal Soldier franchise was improved by his addition, as was the Undisputed series: in fact he made that particular fighting franchise Better with each and every sequel. Even the football-themed series Green Street was made watchable by the appearance of Adkins in the third installment, and that coming from someone who, typically, refuses to watch movies based on idiotic football hooligans.

Hold on… Turns out I may have a man-crush on Scott Adkins! And that’s not a bad thing.

Adkins has single-handedly kept the direct to market action genre alive, »

“I’m old, not obsolete” – Where did the 80’s Action Heroes go?

4 April 2017 4:37 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Matt Rodgers

Growing up in the UK’s equivalent of The Shire meant that access to the escapism of video rentals was something as distant as The Misty Mountains. The arrival of a man who looked like Stanley Uris from Stephen King’s It, driving a van that was filled to the rafters with VHS, and which glowed like the Pulp Fiction briefcase when opened, introduced me to a roll-call of the 80s Action Heroes. Monosyllabic men, who quipped their way through bullets and bodies. The first plastic case to cross my sweaty palms featured a muscular fellow, holding a gun, against a colourful heatmap backdrop. It was Predator, and that was a long time ago.

About where things began to change for the real expendables is hard to pinpoint. Why did these one-time box-office giants; Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van-Damme, and to a lesser degree Lundgren, suddenly find their powers diminishing? »

Losing A Grip On Greatness: Dropping the Ball with Logan

Tom Jolliffe on Logan’s final third and losing a grip on greatness. Warning. Major spoilers follow…

So there you are. You’re bowling a near perfect game. You’ve had the odd spare here and there but largely you’ve had strikes. Then you hit a gutter ball and your game starts falling apart. Sometimes it can end disastrously, or you may just be able to maintain a reasonable finish, but in the end you’ll still look back and wonder whether you missed out on greatness because of one misjudgement on your spin.

I’ve watched Logan. The trailers were fantastic. The hype big and the reviews first rate. This was surely going to be immense. For the first hour or so it was. This saw a dark, tragic and beaten down Wolverine, meandering slowly to his grave in 2029. The world the X-Men inhabited, that we’ve seen »

Matt Edwards Feb 24, 2017

We check out every Steven Seagal film released last year. There were quite a few of them...

2016 was an eventful year for Steven Seagal. The action movie star really took to Twitter, got political, wore some lovely coats and was granted Russian citizenship. But we aren’t here to dissect Steven Seagal’s off-screen life because, well, fuck. What we can do is try to make some sense of his cinematic output. This article will tell you a bit about the Seagal films released in 2016 (it’s full on with spoilers) to let you know how he got on.

With films getting different releases in different territories, I’ve covered every Seagal film with a home video release in 2016 that I might reasonably be expected to have access to. That’s five in total. In the UK, we had a bumper Seagal summer, »

Third Time’s a Charm for Michael Mann’s ‘Ali’ Commemorative Edition Cut

17 January 2017 11:54 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“Times change,” director Michael Mann says of what prompted him to revisit his 2001 Muhammad Ali biopic “Ali” for a “commemorative edition” Blu-ray. The new cut hits shelves today, on what would have been Ali’s 75th birthday. “What I was interested in, particularly now, was making more tangible the forces that were raised against him, all his adversaries, and linking them in a strong way.”

A director’s cut of the film was released in 2004, injecting eight-and-a-half minutes of material that both amplified the political strife of the times and deepened Ali’s kinship with sports journalist Howard Cosell, among other things. For the new release, Mann has pulled some of those Cosell elements back while keeping the political material in tact, shaving and trimming elsewhere for the shortest cut yet — though one still clocking in at a robust 151 minutes.
