Trailer for Dark Blood, River Phoenix's Last Performance

24 May 2012 6:00 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

When River Phoenix overdosed and died in 1993, it was a big loss to Hollywood. The actor had a ton of potential, as seen in early roles in Stand By Me (podcast), Sneakers (podcast), and my personal favorite, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. But there was one final project he was working on before he died that never saw the light of day.

Movies.com (via Slashfilm) has the trailer for Dark Blood, directed by George Sluizer. It's about a couple (Judy Davis and Jonathan Pryce) whose car breaks down in the desert and they encounter a young man (Phoenix) who develops a...complicated relationship with the wife. Take a look at the trailer below.

Sluizer is raising money through a Dutch crowdfunding site and trying to attain enough to finish the film and release it this fall, but the surviving members of the Phoenix family didn't want anything to »

Ben Kingsley will probably play a bad guy in Iron Man 3

9 April 2012 3:44 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Sir Ben Kingsley—who has parlayed his playing Gandhi into an estimable career of equally stoic villain roles in movies like Sneakers and Sexy Beast—may end up being the bad guy all over again in Iron Man 3. The actor is reportedly in final talks to join the Shane Black-directed film, and while Marvel confirmed rumors that the plot would draw from Warren Ellis’ Extremis storyline, it would say only that Kingsley will play an unspecified character “involved in the spread of a virus through nanobots.” (Which, who isn’t these days?) Anyway, as readers of the comic know »

Martin Scorsese Meeting With More Writers For Brewing Sinatra Biopic; Says He Could Go With An Unknown For The Lead

9 April 2012 11:32 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio will be re-upping their bromance this summer, shooting the financial world drama "The Wolf Of Wall Street," one of the many brewing projects the director has bubbling in the background is his long-in-the-works biopic on the Chairman Of The Board, Frank Sinatra. Last we heard, powerhouse producer Scott Rudin ("The Social Network," "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo") came on board last March, and while the film had a script from Phil Alden Robinson (”Field Of Dreams,” “Sneakers”), the plan was to hunt for a new writer to take a stab at the material. And it seems those steps are being taken.

Chatting with Entertainment Tonight, the director revealed the Sinatra movie is still moving, but his life story is so sprawling that the plan is to try and hone in on a specific era. "I'm talking to one or two writers now. The problem is the biography. »
