Soundgarden and Pearl Jam backstage at Lollapalooza in 1992

28 June 2017 12:30 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

I had to post this photo simply because it says so much.  Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were two of the biggest purveyors of the Seattle sound that hit the world like wildfire in the 1990s.  Frankly this picture nearly sums it all up.  Here are two bands that were at the top of their game just when Lollapalooza was kicking off as a force to be reckoned with in the musical events industry.  Here are two bands that even appeared in the same movie together, Singles.  And here are two bands that were in their youth, shredding it up on

Chris Cornell Passes Away

19 May 2017 1:36 AM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden, tragically committed suicide after playing a show in Detroit, Michigan at the Fox Theater according to The Independent. As a member of Soundgarden, he helped usher along an era of music that helped rid the music world of some of the pretensions and phoniness the music industry and built at that particular time. With his work in Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, and Audioslave, his legacy in the music industry will never be forgotten.

One aspect of his career that doesn't get much publicity is his work in film. With music in such films as Singles, Wayne's World, and Benny and June, his music helped fill the soundtrack of the movies of the 90's. One song he did, You Know My Name, helped usher in the modern era of James Bond as the lead in for Casino Royale

The song itself is an underrated Bond movie classic theme. »

The world will receive a posthumous gift from Chris Cornell on Friday. Just one day after the Soundgarden rocker was found dead in his Detroit hotel room, some of his never-before-heard music will be released. In honor of its 25th anniversary, Warner Bros. is releasing a two-disc reissue, which will feature unreleased material from the late rockstar, according to Spin. The bonus track will also include Cornell's "Nowhere But You," "Spoon Man," "Flutter Girl" and "Missing" among two other songs titled "Ferry Boat #3" and "Score Piece #4." There's »

Chris Cornell Music Soaring on Sales Charts (Photo)

18 May 2017 1:34 PM, PDT | TMZ | See recent TMZ news »

Chris Cornell's music is spiking in sales on iTunes and Amazon. The leap was, of course, expected after his death -- but it's interesting to see what fans are connecting with most. The 20th anniversary reissue of Soundgarden's "Superunknown" is the #1 album on iTunes -- and his other band, Audioslave, has the #2 spot. His recordings are scattered all over Amazon's "Movers & Shakers" chart as well. In an odd coincidence ... some rare Cornell recordings »

Cameron Crowe Announces Extended ‘Singles’ Soundtrack

2 February 2017 12:58 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Just in time for the 25th anniversary of his ode to Gen-Xers, “Singles,” director Cameron Crowe has announced a deluxe edition of the film’s grunge-laden soundtrack.

Like many of the soundtracks for Crowe’s films, the original perfectly captured the early ’90s Seattle sound with songs from Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, and the Replacements’ Paul Westerberg.

The two CD set will include a number of additional songs from the film as well as unreleased demos and live versions. The unreleased material includes acoustic versions of Westerberg’s “Dyslexic Heart” and “Waiting for Somebody,” a live film version of “Would” by Alice in Chains, and several songs by Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell.

The soundtrack will be released May 29 with both a two CD set and a two LP set that includes a bonus CD with extra tracks.

The Warner Bros. film opened Sept. 18, 1992 and starred Matt Dillon, »

Newswire: Good news, Citizen Dick fans: The Singles soundtrack is getting a big reissue

4 January 2017 7:10 PM, PST | | See recent The AV Club news »

Much like David Lynch’s Fire Walk With Me, Cameron Crowe’s Singles is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and also like Fire Walk With Me, the Singles soundtrack is getting a special vinyl reissue in honor of that milestone. According to Consequence Of Sound, there will be double-cd and triple-lp editions, with both including the 13 tracks that are normally on the Singles soundtrack plus 18 bonus demos and instrumentals. It’ll also include “Touch Me I’m Dick,” the song by the movie’s fictional grunge band Citizen Dick—a.k.a. Singles star Matt Dillon and most of Pearl Jam.

It doesn’t sound like any of this has been officially announced, as Consequence Of Sound got the news from an Amazon UK listing, but it’ll supposedly be available on February 17.
