Storyline

The third movie in the Nerds series: The nerds are now in control of the university, as a result of Lewis Skolnick and the rest's actions in the two previous movies. A new generation of sportsmen arrive, however, determined on winning the school back. The principle, himself an ex-nerd fighter, helps them, and the nerds return to suppression. Harold Skolnick needs help from his uncle Lewis, the hero of the first two movies. Lewis, however, are not too proud of his nerd past, and won't reveal any of it, much less help his nephew. However, his wife makes him change his mind, and with help from his friends from the first two movies, they start the fight to win the school back, using classic nerd tricks. Dudley 'Booger' Dawson, Esq.: You don't eat meat! You don't do drugs! What's wrong with kids today?
Malcolm Pennington III: We've had the benefit of learning from your generation's mistakes. We believe in "Just Say No." So, with all due respect, we won't turn out like you.

Like a tame version of the original, but still fun for fans
6 March 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Let's be honest, some movies don't need a sequel or at least more than one. Sometimes the memory of the original can be tarnished a little with each new installment. The first 'Rocky' was an Oscar winning film that many feel stands fine on it's own, but that didn't stop Sly Stallone and the studio from producing a new sequel every few years. There comes a time when someone needs to say, "Enough is enough," right? 'Revenge of the Nerds' was a surprise hit, which led to a sequel three years later that, while nowhere near as good, is a fair continuation. Well if you thought you'd seen the end of the battle between the Alpha Betas and Tri-Lambs think again because the series was brought back for the 90s.

Pros: The cast, consisting of series veterans and many newcomers, has fun with it. A few really funny situations. Fast paced. A pretty good updating of the concept. Has some of the heart of the first in it. The positive message of the original still shines through.

Cons: Since this was made for TV it's much tamer than 1 and 2. Looks and feels like a TV movie. Some of the humor really misses the mark. A bit more wacky this time, whereas the original and even 'Nerds in Paradise' were a bit more real despite the ridiculous story. Pretty predictable. Pretty terrible score and soundtrack.

Final thoughts: The world really didn't need another 'Nerds' film, but it could have been much worse. It tries to top the original at times, but ends up greatly paling in comparison. Still if you're a fan and want to see the gang back together with the next generation you'll probably still have a good time.

My rating: 2.5/5
