While many know Gia Allemand from the Bachelor, our readers should remember her as part of the Ghost Trek webseries that we’ve featured regularly in our Indie Spotlight. We’re sad to report that Gia Allemand was taken off life support earlier today.
Gia Allemand was taken to the hospital in critical condition on Monday night and it is being reported that her injuries were the result of a suicide attempt:
via E!: “The 29-year-old former Bachelor star, who was taken off of life support earlier today, died after losing critical brain and organ function following an apparent suicide attempt, according to Allemand’s rep, who released a statement on behalf of her family.”
Allemand “passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend, and other life-long friends by her side. As a practicing Christian, Gia did receive the sacrament of last rites,” the rep’s statement continued.

For more than two years, Karen Black has been battling cancer. While treatment was successful at first, her health continued to deteriorate, even after a recent Crowdfunding project allowed for new treatment. We’re sad to report that Karen Black passed away earlier today.
Her passing was confirmed by Karen’s husband, Stephen Eckelberry: “It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend, Karen Black has just passed away, only a few minutes ago. Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me.”

Remembering singer/songwriter and guitarist Jj Cale, the legendary musician has died aged 74. The somewhat under the radar musical genius, who penned hits such as 'After Midnight' by Eric Clapton and 'Breeze' by Lynyrd Skynyrd, passed away at 8pm on Friday (July 26, 2013) in California after suffering a heart attack. A post on his website stated: ''Jj Cale Has Passed Away ''Jj Cale passed away at 8:00 pm on Friday July 26 at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, CA. ''The legendary singer / songwriter had suffered a heart attack. ''There are no immediate plans for services. In the film world it is always a sad time when somebody passes away. Whether their work was loved by many or few, the loss of a creative voice in the world is a time for mourning and remembering the works of these individuals for what they brought to the cinematic world.

Deadline and multiple sources are reporting Snakes on a Plane helmer David R Ellis has died in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ellis was there scouting locations for Kite which would have reunited him with Snakes' Samuel L Jackson. Ellis was 60 years old. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Ellis began his time in Hollywood working as a stunt coordinator on films such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Gorky Park, and Fatal Attraction. He did second unit director work on titles including Clear and Present Danger, The Devil's Own, and The Negotiator, and then made his directorial debut with Final Destination 2.
