We’re sad to report that L.M. Kit Carson has passed away at the age of 73.

Deadline reports that renowned screenwriter and actor L.M. Kit Carson passed away on October 20th in Dallas, TX. He had been fighting osteoporosis and other illnesses at the time of his death.

Admired for his exemplary work in both the journalism and independent film fields, Carson is perhaps most widely remembered for co-writing the screenplay for 1984’s Paris, Texas.

Horror film fans know Carson for co-writing the script of the intriguing, dark comedy sequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986). Carson also wrote the teleplays for two episodes of the 1980’s TV series, Deadly Nightmares. Our thoughts go out to Carson’s family and friends.

Don Keefer Has Passed Away

Don Keefer left an indelible mark on the minds of horror and sci-fi fans with his crucial and courageous role in a classic episode of The Twilight Zone and his memorable turn in “The Crate” segment of George A. Romero and Stephen King’s Creepshow. Though his impressive onscreen personalities will last forever, we’re sad to report that Don Keefer has passed away at the age of 98.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Don Keefer passed away of natural causes on September 7th. Marilyn Burns Has Passed Away

We’re sad to report that Marilyn Burns has passed away at the age of 65. According to TMZ, Marilyn Burns passed away at her home in Texas. The cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

Marilyn Burns is best known by horror fans for playing the lead role of Sally Hardesty in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Coined as one of the original “Scream Queens”, Marilyn earned the title in grand fashion in the role of Sally. She brought realistic fear to the screen while being chased by Leatherface through the woods and while sitting at the dinner table with the cannibal clan. Her mix of relieved laughter and primal screaming at the end of the film lingers long after the end credits roll. Dick Smith Has Passed Away

We’re sad to report that according to a statement made by his close friend and mentee, Rick Baker, legendary makeup artist Dick Smith has passed away at the age of 92. 

Rick Baker made the announcement via Twitter early this morning:

“The master is gone. My friend and mentor Dick Smith is no longer with us. The world will not be the same.”

Born in 1922, Richard Emerson “Dick” Smith was the master behind a multitude of iconic makeup effects. He began his makeup career in television in the 1940′s before later expanding to the world of film. Smith made memorable movie transformations possible with his innovative makeup applications and styles in a plethora of projects, including The Godfather (1972), Taxi Driver (1976), and Scanners (1981), to name just a few of many.

Horror fans likely best remember Dick Smith from the remarkable job he did transforming the innocent-looking Linda Blair into the pale-faced demon in 1973′s The Exorcist. »

Rock ‘n Roll Nightmare Helmer John Fasano Passed Away

News is quickly spreading this morning that John Fasano died last night. Details of his passing are unclear; he was 52 years ago. Fasano was a writer, director and producer. Genre fans will know him for Rock 'n Roll Nightmare and Black Rose, which he helmed in '87 and '88, respectively. He also directed The Jitters in '89. Before all of that, however, he worked on Zombie Nightmare upon settling down in Los Angeles.

H.R. Giger Has Passed Away

According to multiple reports coming out of Switzerland, H.R. Giger has passed away at the age of 74. Sandra Mivelaz, administrator of the H.R. Giger museum, told reporters that Giger died in a hospital yesterday after sustaining injuries from a fall at his museum.

Born in 1940, Swiss surrealist Hans Rudolf Giger had a style that was instantly recognizable and can be seen in everything from paintings and sculptures, to movies, furniture, guitars, tattoos, album covers, and more. He won an academy award for his work on Alien and contributed designs for Poltergeist II, Species, Batman Forever, and a number of other movies.

H.R. Giger’s work has been influencing artists for decades, and his work will continue to induce nightmares and influence a new generation of artists for years to come.

Harold Ramis Has Passed Away

We’re sad to report that Harold Ramis has passed away at the age of 69. According to his wife, Erica Mann Ramis, and the Chicago Tribune, Harold’s passing was due to “complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare disease that involves swelling of the blood vessels.”

Harold Ramis was born on November 21st, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. The writer, director, and actor is probably best known by horror fans for his role as Egon in Ghostbusters, but he has built up an incredible body of work that includes directing Groundhog Day, Caddyshack, and Analyze This.

While a private service is planned for this week, it is said that a private memorial will take place in Chicago in May. Our thoughts go out to Harold Ramis’ family and friends. He will truly be missed by those who knew him personally and those who were influenced by his work. We’ll update »
