Expert editor Michael Eliot was brought in to re-edit the movie because of the behind the scenes problems and short running time of William Lustig's rough cut. This is why there are several scenes in the movie which are very obviously outtakes of scenes from Maniac Cop 2. See more »

All the evils of the modern world are represented. There are corrupt city officials, sensationalist, greedy reporters, and ambitious lawyers. Cordell has to kill insensitive doctors two times!
The theme here is "anti-justice" as represented by an evil priest's sign. The priest brings back the wronged (we know from the first two films) Cordell to help him find love!? Maniac Kate, screwed by the evil people mentioned in my previous paragraph, lies dying in a hospital bed. She is a good person, yet her name has been soiled. The Maniac Cop does good by clearing her name, but is of course too violent and must be dealt with. There is a message in there for us.
Cool stuff includes a wedding dream between Cordell and Kate and an opening scene where Cordell punches through his coffin to grab his badge. The Cop, of course, looks great throughout.
Most of the killings are pretty weak as are the dull gun fights. In fact, until the final fight the action is more than a let down. What works for this movie are the issues dealing with revenge and the creepy ending.
