Gun and Rose (1992) is about a triad family who's leader (Alan Tang) is
implicated in some serious crimes (such as murder for one). He has to
leave the family and go into hiding. The family "business" is in the
hands of his two brother one is crazy (Simon Yam) the other is
spineless (Bowie Lam). While Simon Yam plots to whack his older
brother, Alan Tang is hiding out in a fishing village an befriends a
likable rogue (Andy Lau) and her annoying sister (Carrie Ng). Simon
learns about his brother's where abouts and decides to make his life
very uncomfortable. Will Alan get back into action and take out Simon
or will he become another victim of his madness?
A surprise to me how enjoyable this movie was. There's plenty of action
and a lot of out of place comedy (courtesy of Andy Lau). One scene has
Andy Lau dancing away to music from a juke box. Simon Yam is his wing
nut self whilst Bowie Lam plays the role of a weak willed push over.
Alan Tang also gets to prove that he still has it.
Recommended if you can find a copy.

Taiwan mob family leader has three sons. The eldest (Alan Tang) is
adopted but feels most responsible to carry out family duties. Second
son (Simon Yam) is ambitious loose cannon. Third son (Bowie Lam)don't
have what it takes to be much of anything. Alan is being targeted for a
hit, and hit men raids on him during his wedding where his now wife
gets hit in a spine and becomes paraplegic. Alan decides to lay low for
the sake of his wife and leaves Taiwan to Hong Kong where he becomes an
average fish vendor in Stanley where he meets Andy (Lau). Andy is a
gang leader of some influence among the punk kids around Stanley and
first takes Alan lightly not knowing that he's the real deal.
This movie has action, plot and humor (and bit of romance), and
spontaneous exchange between Andy Lau and Alan Tang is priceless.
This is hard boiled action where Alan Tang sets the mood. He was a star
in the '70s and proves that he's still in the game in the '90s. Watch
it, and you won't be disappointed.
