Although she was playing a college student, Milla Jovovich was only 15 during principal photography.
The script was written specifically for Christian Slater in mind for the title role.
"Kuffs" came under fire from parental and community groups when released theatrically in the US for its violence and profanity. The protesters felt the film well exceeded the PG-13 rating and should have been rated R.

In the scene where Kuffs asks his trainer why they're running when they're going to drive most of the time, the cadets are all wearing sweatshirts with their last names on the front. One of those shirts has the last name "Gideon", a nod to co-writer/producer Raynold Gideon.

The 2nd film which Milla Jovovich plays a teenage girl whom falls pregnant. In her previous film Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991), Lily (Played in that film by Mila Jovovich) whom is 17, falls pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl at the end of the movie.
